GOING MOBILE
Google’s Mobile-Friendly Algorithm, which was announced on February 26th, will take effect on April 21, 2015. This update is expected to bigger than both Penguin and Panda. Google says that the change will have a “significant impact” on all mobile searches in all languages around the world, and as a result, Google says that mobile users will be served a higher quality results in their search.
The Mobile-Friendly search algorithm might not affect direct search results on desktop computers but it still has an effect on your sites mobile ability rankings as well as performance rankings which could result in a decline of your overall ranking. Keep in mind, 60% of Google searches are performed on mobile devices.
Google search results have become very competitive for a lot of reasons and being #1 on google is an expected customer concern. Mobile users show to have shorter attention spans, so it is important not only to be found on the first page but if possible, place at the top of the search results. A drop in Google search rankings for sites that are not mobile friendly could be significant.
Google maintains that the update is important because mobile users are growing tired of non-optimized sites that are slow to load, difficult to navigate, have broken links, and error messages. Mobile users will quickly bounce your site to search for a mobile friendly site that offers a better customer experience .
This is good news for websites that are already mobile friendly and may be a scramble for many websites that are not. The bottom line is, everyone should attempt to give customers easier access on mobile devices. The positive side is, this can only help maintain and grow your current search engine ranking and direct the desired level of search engine traffic to your website.
