Technology is ubiquitous, touching almost every part of our lives, our communities, and our homes. Properly used, technology helps students acquire the skills they need to survive in a complex, highly technological knowledge-based economy. Tragically, many of our youth are under exposed to the latest suitable technology that is available. Many that have access via school or home are not trained in how to become a technically savvy citizen, maximizing on the benefits of both hardware and software. This is especially true of the various social media outlets that are widely used by our youth. The Stepping Into Technology Program offers an opportunity for students to hone their technical skills through a curriculum of advanced technical practices that include: video creation, website development, basic computer skills for business, and social media profile maintenance (developing your web presence and protecting it). All of this is achieved through curriculum integration with their schoolwork. By using homework assignments, reports, college essays etc., the knowledge and skills that the students acquire have practical implementation from day one. “Stepping, and step team development is the foundation of the Stepping Into Technology curriculum. As a discipline, it is what inspires many of our students to achieve high levels of success both academically, and personally. Many schools across the country are adopting step as a sport, and including it as part of their athletic activities. Mentoring is a major component of the team building process. To that end, starting a step team for both performance and competition is an incredible asset to any youth oriented organization.
