Many articles this week have shown the rarity of basements are in tornado-prevalent areas like Oklahoma City. Even during rebuilding, there's no uptick in % of new constructions with basements or storm rooms. Curious, we dug into our Listings API and saw low basement counts in OK. According to the Pres of the OK Basement Contractors, basements there are so rare that they're not categorized as a "foundation type" as they are in other places.
In states like Oklahoma and Missouri, tornadoes are a seasonal threat, but government regulation and the expense of shelters rankle.
