Secret Riso Club is a graphic design and risograph studio that focuses its work on the intersection of social justice, art, design and community building. We’re so excited to share our latest publication and exhibition featuring the work of sTo Len sTo Len with you all! Join us for the release of “The End Papers” and the opening of the accompanying gallery exhibition by sTo Len at Secret Riso Club on Friday, November 6th at 7pm.

This exhibition features sTo Len’s work from 2015-2020, a period that broke the artist out of the studio and into the environment for place-based printmaking from row boats, toxic shorelines, and with communities all over the world.

The exhibition accompanies sTo Len’s new publication with SRC. “The End Papers” is an artist publication documenting sTo Len’s explorations in place-based printmaking, water, and environmental debris. Featuring three works, a process journal, artworks and a booklet of color prints, the publication archives the artist’s experimental practices and collaborations with polluted waterways, organic matter, and collected waste from Newtown Creek. Published in an edition of 250 copies printed in a combination of Riso and digital, it brings together artworks, documentation, and process as a printed record of Len’s ongoing investigation into the relationship between art, ecology, and human impact.

Join us Friday 10/23 from 7-9pm to celebrate the release of the second edition of Lagniappe [lan-yap], a book by Arlander Taylor IV we first published in 2024 and now updated! We’ll have music by KAILI & annalie juan, give you the chance to explore the updated book, playing with the lacing and order, and a special gallery exhibition by Lander. The first edition of Lagniappe was a small book about change and the roads that lead to it. It was a quiet side project that went further than originally planned - copies ended up with readers in Japan, Italy, and was procured by the Thomas J. Watson Art Library at The Met.

The second edition keeps that spirit; we redesigned the binding to make it easier to take the book apart, to share art, ideas and a little extra. Each page can stand alone, so you can pull one out, frame it, pin it up, mail it to a friend or leave it somewhere for a stranger to find.

We’re honored to be recognized for our work building community, creating space for artists and championing independent publishing.

We’re in such good company & grateful to be included alongside so many other talented NYC creatives. Big thanks to the incredible team KAMP GRIZZLY & Adidas originals for making this such a fun process.

Debuting this weekend Printed Matter Art Book Fairs the 6 volume of Signs & Artifacts series now in collaboration with Extra Credit and featuring the signs and artifacts of Itaewon, Seoul, South Korea. Find us this weekend at table T 27 on the second floor and available online!

Itaewon is most frequently described as an international district, a multicultural center, or sometimes more pejoratively, a foreigner hub. But Itaewon is still perhaps one of the only neighborhoods in Seoul where you can find a grocery store that sells sambal and curry leaves, a restaurant that serves halal meat, and a photographer who doesn’t need to be reminded of the Canadian passport photo rules. As clumsy attempts at revival alter the fabric of the neighborhood, artist Jean Y. Kim travels back to Itaewon to document its disappearing graphic legacy.

Published in collaboration with Jean Y. Kim and Extra Credit, Signs & Artifacts 6: Itaewon continues Secret Riso Club’s signature project documenting the often-overlooked design iconography that color the neighborhoods we inhabit. Originally started in 2018, the Signs & Artifacts project has travelled far from its roots in New York City. Secret Riso Club and Extra Credit hope that its newest international iteration, Signs & Artifacts 6: Itaewon, will faithfully honor the pluralistic legacy of the neighborhood.
