Patch Panel: The giant humming tower in your office's IT closet. Curious what it actually does?

A patch panel is a hardware component with several ports that help organize and centralize the wiring of your network.
Patch panels condense and label all of the low voltage ethernet wires running from your space. Rather than running all the wires to a switch, this component makes it easy to troubleshoot the physical wiring in the space.
The ethernet ports provide internet (and sometimes power) to your Wireless Access Points, desk drops, printer, and more.
