The pandemic has changed the way we view the office, and companies around the world are looking to go fully remote or are adopting a hybrid work model.

For many, the return to the office sparks a new conversation: What technology do we need to facilitate our new hybrid or flexible office model?

It's not about adding yet another HR ops tool to the mix. Rather, it's about selecting intentional tooling to help get folks back to the office and support a hybrid office culture.

Thinking through how your team will return to the office? Your employees' needs and wants have likely changed.

The corporate climbers

Who they are: These employees tend to be mid-career pros who were hitting their stride just when the pandemic hit. Frequently spotted at the CEO’s lunch table, they’ve continued to network while working remote, but they’ve missed getting real facetime with their mentors—and the serendipitous “water cooler” moments with execs that could lead to new opportunities.

And what they want? They’re happy to work maybe a day from home here or there each week—especially if it becomes dedicated focus time. But they work best (and climb fastest) when they’re face-to-face.

Up first: The “take me back”s

These folks—frequently recent grads or younger folks who are new to your city—are known for their limitless appetite for themed happy hours (and strong opinions about snacks). They’ve built their social lives around your office and probably organized your touch football league, book club, and Dungeons and Dragons campaign. They’ve spent the pandemic keeping the social flames alive over Slack, even as they’re fighting for Wifi and kitchen table space with their five roommates.

So, what do they want? These team members want to get back to the office ASAP, full-time, full stop. They’ve been planning the “back to the office” party for months and hope to cut down their Doordash bill.

After 12+ months of remote work, employees have adapted their working styles, and their wants and needs have likely changed. Many leaders are now faced with an important decision to make: How should you re-open your office?

Some of your team members will want to be back in the office full-time. Others will have fully embraced life without commutes. And many will fall somewhere in the middle—ready to come back in some form, but not sure exactly how that looks.

We've had conversations with dozens of leaders and have taken note of what their teams are looking for in their return to the office.

And this week, we're sharing that info with you! Be on the lookout for the top 5 profiles you'll want to consider when thinking through your return to office strategy.

“Ford joins a growing list of major corporations, such as Google, Salesforce, Spotify, and Twitter, that are offering worker-friendly programs. It's becoming clear that the post-pandemic work world will not resemble what we had only a little over one year ago.”

Ford informed about 30,000 white-collar office workers that they can continue to work from home “indefinitely” and have “flexible hours approved by their managers.” It's anticipated that people will come into the office primarily for meetings and group projects.
