We’re stoked to celebrate World Oceans Day today and every day! First declared in 1992, this global conservation initiative unites and rallies the world to protect and restore our amazing ocean 🌊

In addition we’ve committed to being Ocean Positive+ by reforesting enough costal ecosystems to capture and sequester more carbon out of the air than our team produces each year through our partner .trees

June is National Oceans Month! 🌊🪸🐬
Did you know blue carbon ecosystems — mangroves, kelp, and coral — can store up to 10 times more carbon than tropical rainforests? That’s why we’re all in on blue carbon with our partner .trees, to utilize ocean’s superpower to reverse climate change.

This Earth Day (and every day) we want to highlight that business has a significant role to play in fighting climate change, which is why we’re so focused on doing our share to be part of the solution—in addition to action, that also means taking the time to listen and learn.

Often, the voices we need to listen to most are those we hear the least, and there can be no climate justice without social justice. It’s why we’re a member, and why we’ve committed our monetary portion to Indigenous led organizations focused on Land Back initiatives.

This Earth Day, we encourage you to watch and learn from the residents of Newtok Alaska, a Yup’ik village which is having to move their village as a result of rising sea levels. Globally, an estimated 1.4 billion people may have to relocate due to rising seas by 2060—but Newtok, Alaska, must move now.

Additionally, consider joining our partners .Trees who are fighting climate change by reforesting our oceans and employing local communities across the globe with well paying jobs to do so in the process.

Project Spotlight 🎞🌏📈

As we head into Earth Week, we wanted to highlight a project for our client MetLife, and the work that we’ve done for their Sustainability Team.

When it came time for their annual Sustainability Report, we saw the opportunity to transform their 168-page document into a standout public message, and make all of the great work that they’re doing more digestible for a much wider audience. We pitched the idea of creating a narrated video as a way to take the most impactful and engaging info from the report, and bring it to life outside of a static document.

We took our expertise in the area, and worked with their team to write the script and collaborate on the video production for the final piece. From there, we built the strategy for, launched, and ran a paid media campaign across LinkedIn, Facebook, and Twitter to amplify their impact.

We saw an opportunity, provided a solution they hadn’t considered, and struck gold. For that, we’re pretty proud. Take a look at the video, and click through the link-in-bio to see more 📽

Last week, we joined other Certified B Corps® for a series of virtual fly-ins with some of our representatives in Congress. This was an exciting opportunity to not only fill our representatives in on the B Corps in their district, and why they're so important, but also speak to the importance of the stakeholder economy.

Additionally we were excited to be able to speak to the importance of blue carbon as part of 30x30, and advocate for the climate policy priorities from our friends and partner in the coming year!

➡️ Swipe through to see what we’re joining them in asking both congress and the administration to take strong action on, and ensure a better future for all of us!

It’s B Corp Month, and in our look , we’re sharing our impact through our 1% for the Planet commitment. In 2021, we donated to & through our membership and in-kind work with .Trees & . 🎉 🙌 🎉

Since becoming members of 1% for the Planet in 2021, giving to Indigenous-led organizations focused on Land Back programs, in addition to supporting our climate partners, has become central to how we strive to do better business, for good.

Impact isn’t *all* about the money, but it's one way that we're working to make an impact with the tools and systems available to us—we won't stop here!

❤️ Big thanks to our team for doing the work, and of course our partners & friends protecting our people and planet 💙💚.

As members of the Civic Alliance, we believe our democracy is only as strong as our commitment to participate in it, and that requires the ability for everyone to have easy access to be able to exercise their right to vote.

Now that it’s 2022, it’s almost time to elect U.S. Representatives, Senators and your local/state officials! Here are things to prepare and some key areas to look out for in the coming weeks:

☑️ Sign up for TurboVote election reminders
☑️ Elect officials who will vouch for reforming the Electoral Count Act that governs the counting of state electoral votes for president
☑️ Ask your officials to increase federal funding to run local & state elections

“Running Wolf Medicine”
With our 1% for the Planet commitment, we’ve pledged to invest our resources and revenue back into our planet and people. As part of this promise, we’re committing the monetary contribution of our 1% for the Planet donations strictly to Indigenous-led organizations focused on Land Back programs.

Although they comprise less than 5% of the world population, Indigenous peoples protect 80% of the Earth's biodiversity in the forests, deserts, grasslands, and marine environments in which they have lived for centuries. We also recognize that we can’t combat climate change without justice for Indigenous people, and that returning Land Back to the people that have always cared for it is a non-negotiable action that we all must be a part of; the medicine that our planet and people need.

🎨 To inspire and remind us of this step that we’ve taken, we commissioned this art from@JohnIsaiahPepion (Blackfeet/Piikani), a graphic artist from the Piikani Band of the Blackfoot Confederacy. He is based out of the Blackfeet reservation in north-central Montana, where the Rocky Mountains meet the plains.
John is best known for his ledger art, an art tradition that developed in Plains tribes as the buffalo hide they traditionally used for painting became scarce, and they were forced to adapt to making artwork on the ledger paper from accounting books. He comes from a family of artists, and ledger art has been in his family for hundreds of years.

Get to know his work, and see our comments below to learn about the two great organizations that we’re committed to.
