You can't control any of that.

What you CAN control: how many hours a week your office burns re-typing customer info between four different tools. For most shops, that's 5 to 8 hours every week. That's a part-time salary you're spending to make your software do its job.

We talked to 47 mid-market home service shops in Q1. The pattern was uncomfortable to watch.
Every shop bigger than 15 trucks privately called their office manager the bottleneck. None of the owners were wrong about the symptom — operations dragged through her — but they were wrong about the cause.
She wasn't the bottleneck. The integration was. They couldn't see it because they hired her to be the integration.

Once you see the pattern you can't unsee it: anywhere a person's job is to be the connection between two tools, that's a tool failure, not a hiring decision.

Most shops blame the tech when an estimate doesn't close.
The tech is rarely the problem. The customer got the proposal as a PDF attachment 6 hours after the visit. They never opened it. By the time anyone called to follow up, the customer had already booked the cheaper guy.
Sales is a tool problem most of the time. Live, real-time proposals — open in the customer's browser before the truck leaves the driveway — close at a fundamentally different rate. Has nothing to do with the tech's pitch.

Friday 7 AM. You've got 22 jobs on Monday's board. Four techs called out yesterday. The schedule needs to be rebuilt before the office opens.

In a 5-tool stack: walk around the office asking who's available. Check three calendars. Update the board. Re-text two customers. 90 minutes of triage before the day starts.

Carla runs an 18-truck plumbing shop in Phoenix. Last September, her dispatcher quit the day before Labor Day weekend.
Thirty jobs were on the board. Two new emergencies came in by 9 AM Saturday. Without the dispatcher, the office manager had to step in cold. The handoff took 4 hours of phone calls because none of the customer history lived in one place.
