Designed in accordance with the VITA 75 footprint, the M-Max® VI 1 DS is a fully sealed rugged computer system with passive cooling, providing reliable operation in tough environments including transportation, agriculture, mining and processing.

Its machine-worked aluminum chassis is especially designed for the most challenging environments. The system’s GPSS module supports GPS/Glonass/Galileo/BeiDou/QZSS.

Beyond automotive: 30 years of CiA

CAN in Automation (CiA) celebrates 30 years in 2022, a fitting moment to look back and consider the success of CAN in non-automotive applications. Much of this progress can be attributed to the CiA’s forum.

MicroMax’ long-time partner Kvaser was a founding CiA member. The CiA community continues to grow and makes impressive technical progress too, with CAN FD and CANopen FD, CAN FD Light, CAN XL and many new CiA profiles under development.

For the future CAN XL, the third generation of CAN, offers payloads up to 2048 byte and bit‑rates to 10 Mbit/s and beyond. CAN XL will integrate easily into service-based TCP/IP network systems to provide a signal-based networking alternative to Ethernet for many years yet.

CAN XL’s development under the auspices of CiA demonstrates that the paths of the automotive and automation industry remain indivisible.

While CAN users have changed over the years, the need for a reliable, cost-effective CAN toolchain is stronger than ever. Kvaser is proud to be an active member of CiA and MicroMax wishes them both every future success.

MicroMax and Diamond at Embedded Technology Convention in Las Vegas

MicroMax will be joining our long-time partner Diamond Systems Corporation at their booth at the Embedded Technology Convention in Las Vegas, Nevada, at LVCC on the 8-9 June 2022.

Along with DSC’s solutions you will also be able to see one of the best examples of a DSC and MicroMax collaboration — a high performance rugged computer system M-Max® 400 TBT by MicroMax featuring four boards by Diamond.

The core of the M-Max® 400 TBT consists of three of Diamond’s Venus SBCs with 7th Gen Core i7 CPUs. It also features DSC’s embedded 16‑port Epsilon Gigabit Ethernet Switch.

The three SBCs and embedded 16-port switch are encased in an ATR-type enclosure which is a conductively cooled sealed aluminum chassis offering dust/water ingress protection.

The selection of the boards attributes to thicker PCB and latching connectors that make them all suitable for a rugged environment plus they have a conduction cooling mounting plate for efficient thermal dissipation and convenient mounting.

Rudi is pre-integrated with the NVIDIA Jetson TX1/TX2/TX2i supercomputer-on-module, providing 256 CUDA Cores on the NVIDIA Pascal architecture. The Floyd SC compact carrier board converts the Nvidia Jetson modules into complete embedded systems by providing interface circuitry, I/O connectors for all module features in a solution measuring only 4.3×3.3″ / 110×85mm. A novel expansion I/O connector enables connection of standard and custom daughterboards with additional I/O functionality.

Floyd SC features up to 3 CSI camera inputs, 2 Gigabit Ethernet ports, 2 USB 2.0 ports, 1 USB 3.0 port, 1 RS-232 and 1 RS-232/485 serial port, 16 GPIO, and HDMI + DP display support. With the NX module installed a second Ethernet port and a CAN port are available.

The M-Max® SW208 PD1 is a ruggedized 8-Port Gigabit Ethernet Layer 2+ managed switch providing reliable operation in tough environments which include transportation, agriculture, mining and processing.
It features 1x RS-232 port for configuration and is tested and guaranteed to operate in −40 to +65°C. The rugged compact aluminum enclosure is fanless and uses passive cooling. The M-Max® SW208-PD1 has eight 10/100/1000 Mbps copper twisted pair ports.
Support for control and management is through a web interface, and host processor access is through a Command Line Interface (CLI).
