There has been a lot of buzz in academia & in industry in the last decade or so around automating programming, generating code that is correct by construction, program synthesis and AI.

Program synthesis is actually not a recent concept at all, it goes back at least to the 50s to a problem posed by Alonzo Church about circuit synthesis. We also attribute program synthesis to another paper from the 70s by Zohar Manna & Richard Waldinger titled as synthesis being a dream or something that takes a dream and converts into a program.
