February 16: Communicating Health Info (and combatting MISinfo) with Suzanne Kirkendall

Whether you are trying to get your partner to be healthier, or you create health communications for a living, we can all benefit from learning how to communicate health information more effectively.
In this session, you will learn:
What is behavioral science (to establish a common definition)
What is health literacy, and why is it important for everyone
How to use behavioral science and health literacy to craft effective health communications
How to use behavioral science to combat health-related misinformation
This will be a fun and interactive session, open to anyone of any background and level of expertise in the topic
Our Speaker:
Suzanne Kirkendall’s passion lies in marrying the worlds of psychology, public health, and behavioral economics to craft impactful behavior change solutions to help people live healthier lives. She currently leads the North American office of BVA Nudge Consulting, a global behavioral science consultancy that specializes in applying cutting-edge behavioral science to solve for the true drivers of behavior change across every stakeholder in a given ecosystem. Previously, Suzanne co-developed an industry-leading social science offering at a global marketing network, McCann Health.
Suzanne completed her Master of Public Health at Columbia University’s Mailman School of Public Health and her undergraduate studies at The University of Sydney. She has published a number of academic studies on health communication and health literacy, including most recently a Cochrane Systematic review on health literacy interventions in chronic kidney disease.
Suzanne is fortunate to be able to share her love of teaching and learning through visiting lectures on behavioral economics and choice architecture at Columbia University's Business School and Columbia Mailman's School of Public Health. Outside of work, Suzanne also enjoys serving in several volunteer roles: on Columbia Mailman’s Alumni Board, Chair of The Good Listening Project’s Client Experience Committee, and leading the NYC Chapter of Action Design Network.
