The cyberattack against MGM Resorts reportedly began with social engineering tactics targeting internal support processes.

The incident disrupted hotel systems, gaming operations, reservations, and customer experiences across multiple properties.

For businesses, the lesson is that cybersecurity is not only about technical defenses. Internal processes, communication standards, and employee verification procedures all influence organizational resilience.

As cloud adoption continues growing, organizations are paying closer attention to operational efficiency, resource usage, and long-term scalability.

Reviewing underutilized resources, overlapping tools, storage growth, and vendor alignment can help reduce unnecessary complexity and improve visibility into cloud spending.

Scalability continues requiring operational discipline.

Many IT teams now manage large volumes of alerts, dashboards, systems, and operational data simultaneously.

The challenge is often not collecting more information, but identifying which issues require immediate attention and which systems create the greatest operational dependency.

Visibility becomes more valuable when it improves prioritization and decision-making.

Fashion retailer Mango disclosed that customer contact information was exposed through a third-party marketing provider.

Incidents like this are reminders that organizational risk increasingly extends beyond internal systems. Marketing platforms, external vendors, and connected tools can all introduce operational exposure when oversight and visibility are limited.

Organizations benefit from understanding:
• What data vendors can access
• Which integrations remain active
• How third-party access is monitored
• Whether unnecessary data sharing can be reduced

Strong cybersecurity increasingly depends on strong vendor management.

A vulnerability in a widely used file transfer platform led to widespread disruption across businesses, government agencies, and service providers.

Incidents like this highlight how heavily organizations rely on shared infrastructure tools behind the scenes. When one platform is compromised, the operational impact can extend far beyond a single company.

Operational resilience increasingly depends on understanding vendor dependencies and exposure points before disruption occurs.

Meet Matthew! Systems Integrator

As a Systems Integrator at Solarus, Matthew focuses on helping the company lean into AI in practical, responsible ways. From improving internal processes to building smarter workflows, his work is centered around saving time, increasing efficiency, and making operations more intelligent.

He’s been with Solarus for just over three years, joining after a referral from a colleague at a previous MSP. The culture and growth mindset here made the decision easy.

What he loves most about IT is how quickly it evolves. There is always something new to learn, and staying ahead truly matters. That mindset aligns perfectly with how Solarus approaches technology.

Outside of work, you’ll find him playing hockey, gaming, or relaxing with a good TV show. Currently, he’s watching Shrinking. Despite being born and raised in South Florida, he’s been playing hockey since he was five. Another surprise? He didn’t take the traditional college path.

Professionally, he holds the Microsoft 365 Endpoint Administrator certification and Azure Fundamentals. He’s currently working on reducing manual ticket dispatching by building a smarter assignment process that automatically routes tickets to the right engineer.

His mindset is simple: Work hard and stay humble.

Whether disruptions come from social unrest or cyberattack, IT leaders must define continuity strategies that keep business moving.
