Did you know $300 million in federal funding is now available to nonprofits, and cybersecurity readiness can affect whether you qualify?

FEMA's Nonprofit Security Grant Program for 2026 funds both physical and cybersecurity upgrades for eligible nonprofits, but applicants have to document real vulnerabilities and show a credible security plan to be competitive. Funders across the board are increasingly asking the same question before writing a check: can this organization actually protect the data and systems behind its mission?

A security gap isn't just a risk anymore. It can be the difference between winning funding and getting passed over.

Security readiness is becoming part of how nonprofits get funded, not just how they get protected.

Healthcare is now the second most-targeted industry for data breaches in the U.S.

New reporting shows healthcare data breaches climbed again in the first half of 2026, trailing only financial services. Insider-driven incidents are on the rise alongside external attacks.

The pattern is clear: as hospitals, clinics, and health tech vendors expand their digital footprint, the attack surface grows right along with it.

For healthcare organizations, this isn't a future risk to plan for. It's a present one to manage. Visibility into who's accessing what, and how fast your team can detect and respond, matters more than ever heading into the back half of the year.

The role of the managed service provider is changing.

As businesses navigate AI adoption, cybersecurity, cloud environments, and increasingly complex technology stacks, many are looking for more than day-to-day IT support. KPMG’s 2026 Managed Services Outlook found that 87% of U.S. companies have integrated managed services into their digital transformation strategy, with AI capability now the top consideration when selecting a provider.

For businesses, that signals a broader shift in what they should expect from an MSP. The value is increasingly in combining technical expertise with strategic guidance: helping organizations determine where AI makes sense, strengthen security, simplify technology environments, and make better long-term IT decisions.

Managed IT is becoming less about maintaining technology and more about helping businesses use it strategically.

The cybersecurity risk landscape is shifting, and the latest breach data shows where organizations should be paying attention.

Verizon’s 2026 Data Breach Investigations Report found that vulnerability exploitation has surpassed stolen credentials as the leading way attackers gain initial access, accounting for 31% of breaches. Ransomware remains widespread, third-party involvement in breaches has increased significantly, and AI is helping attackers identify and exploit weaknesses faster.

For IT leaders, this reinforces the importance of prioritizing the fundamentals: identify and patch critical vulnerabilities, understand which third-party vendors have access to your environment, maintain strong identity controls, and make sure recovery plans are tested before they’re needed.

The threats may be evolving, but strong cybersecurity still starts with knowing where your greatest risks are and addressing them first.

Phishing attacks are increasingly taking advantage of the same trusted tools and services businesses use every day.

Microsoft recently identified campaigns abusing legitimate OAuth functionality to redirect users through trusted services before sending them to phishing or malware sites. That can make suspicious links more difficult to recognize and allow attacks to bypass some traditional email and browser protections.

For businesses using Microsoft 365 and other cloud platforms, this reinforces the need to look beyond obvious phishing warning signs. Review third-party application permissions, limit unnecessary access, keep security controls current, and continue training employees to verify unexpected sign-in or permission requests.

Phishing is evolving. The controls used to protect business accounts need to evolve with it.

Artificial intelligence is changing more than how businesses work—it's also changing how cybercriminals target them.

AI-generated phishing emails are becoming increasingly convincing because they can mimic normal business communication with remarkable accuracy. Messages may appear to come from executives, trusted vendors, financial institutions, or even coworkers, using polished language and realistic context that makes them much harder to identify than traditional phishing attempts.

While AI is making these attacks more sophisticated, the fundamentals of good cybersecurity haven't changed. Verifying unexpected payment requests, confirming changes to banking or payroll information, and encouraging employees to pause before clicking links or sharing sensitive information remain some of the most effective ways to reduce risk.

As AI continues to evolve, security awareness and strong verification processes remain one of the best defenses.

Recent cloud-related breaches reinforced an important cybersecurity reality: attackers do not always need to “break in” if valid access already exists.

In several reported cases, exposure stemmed from weak account protections and older credentials that were still active.

For leadership teams, this is a reminder that cybersecurity increasingly depends on visibility and accountability around access, not just perimeter defenses.
