WifiForward A group of companies, organizations and public sector institutions working to bust the Wi-Fi bottleneck

WifiForward’s first live summit in two years, "An Inclusive Spectrum Future,” was held with much fanfare at the District Architecture Center in downtown Washington, D.C., immediately following June 20th’s World Wi-Fi Day.

Speakers, panels and a live demonstration courtesy of HPE focused on the theme of empowering unlicensed spectrum to connect more people in new and accessible ways — particularly the contributions that Wi-Fi and emerging AR and VR technologies can make.

The 2022 Summit closed with the in-person presentation of the second annual Wi-Fi at Work Awards and a reception, complete with bespoke cocktails designed just for the event.

Did you know? Just about every wireless consumer device, from your wireless TV remote to your garage door opener to your baby monitor, uses unlicensed spectrum — even if they don’t use Wi-Fi or connect to the internet.

Harold Feld of Public Knowledge writes for Forbes: "'Unlicensed spectrum,' as the name implies, is open to everyone. This is why you don’t have to pay a monthly subscriber fee or watch advertisements (or both) when you use Wi-Fi or Bluetooth using unlicensed spectrum. You pay for your broadband subscription, but you don’t pay extra to use an iPad with Wi-Fi."
