Four months ago, we spent the day with Jeremy Renner walking through how Harmony AI actually works behind a 911 call. Most of what surprised him wasn't the tech. It was how much of the job is still entirely human.

Our founder & CEO, Michael Martin, made Crain's 2026 40 Under 40 list this year. It's a big achievement, but he'd be the first to tell you it didn't happen alone. RapidSOS exists because 911 directors picked up the phone for an unproven idea, and public safety professionals tested early versions before they were any good.

At APCO 2026, we presented our first-ever Excellence in Training Award.

We were honored to present this award to our partner, Clark County.

Clark County 911 didn't just meet the bar; they blew past it. Of their 32 staff members, 31 completed the full UNITE Honors Path. That is not most of the team. That is nearly the entire center. They are the first recipients of the RapidSOS Excellence in Training Award, and their achievement sets the standard for what Training Center Excellence looks like.

We're proud to keep recognizing work like this. Nothing means more to us than seeing partners put in the work to truly understand the technology. It's a living reminder of why we do what we do, and we're grateful for every team that shows up for it.

Summer means dispatchers and telecommunicators are catching every kind of call. A lot of them aren't emergencies at all. Fireworks and noise complaints, a dead battery, a flat tire, all stacking up right alongside calls where seconds matter.

This July 4th, 911 traffic spiked to 2.66x baseline, and a surge of those calls weren't emergencies at all.

Illinois has enacted Alyssa's Law and went further than most states by writing the 911 connection into the statute itself. Schools that adopt a panic alert system now have to coordinate with their local 911 center before they buy.

The law carries the name of a child. Alyssa Alhadeff was killed in the shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School. Her mother, Lori Alhadeff, co-founded Make Our Schools Safe with her husband, Ilan, and has spent over a decade advocating for this law.

We are humbled to play a small, supporting role in that work. When a panic alarm is triggered, RapidSOS helps ensure that signal reaches 911 immediately, with the context responders need to act. It is quiet, technical work, but it exists only because of what this law was written to prevent.

Illinois is now the 13th state to pass Alyssa's Law. 13 states where a panic alarm no longer waits on a phone call to reach 911.

Respect to the Alhadeff family, the Make Our Schools Safe team, and every telecommunicator and first responder who answers when the alarm goes off.

Officer Kevin Betancourt got a crash notification through RapidSOS. That was all he had to start. An alert, an accurate location, and enough to launch a drone.

Twenty-seven seconds later, he had eyes on the scene. A USPS mail truck had rolled down an embankment near a golf course, struck a storm drain, and come to rest in the brush. Mail was scattered across the ground. The driver was upright, moving, and reaching for her phone to call 911.

By the time patrol arrived, Officer Betancourt already knew it was a single-vehicle crash, that the driver didn't need immediate medical attention, and that a tow truck and Public Works would need to get called in. None of that came from a radio report. It came from a drone that beat the 911 call to the scene.

"It's becoming so common to me that it's my everyday," Betancourt said. "I've got to remember it's not the norm for everybody, but for us here at Brookhaven, it is."

City of Atlanta E911 Communications Center has handled numerous large-scale events. What made the World Cup different was its duration. Dispatchers fielded calls in dozens of languages, non-emergency traffic got handled without clogging the line, and neighboring agencies didn't have to rely on the phone to coordinate. They were looking at the same real-time picture.

That’s a wrap on APCO 2026!

After a week in San Antonio with thousands of public safety professionals, we’re heading home energized by the conversations happening across this industry and excited about where emergency response is going next.

A few things we heard loud and clear:

🟢 AI is getting practical.
The conversation is moving beyond whether AI belongs in public safety to how it’s governed, how transparent it is, and what agencies need to know before trusting it in a mission-critical environment.

🟢 NG911 takes all of us.
Agencies, jurisdictions, technology partners, policymakers, and federal partners all play a role in moving 911 forward.

🟢More emergency data is reaching 911 directly.
From connected vehicle crash data and school safety alerts to commercial alarms and drones, critical information is reaching 911 and first responders in new ways.

That last one is especially close to home. It’s what the RapidSOS Safety Network is already enabling today: getting critical data from its source to 911 and first responders when it matters most.
