Google AdSense and Google Ad Exchange are two sides of the same coin that enables publishers to generate revenue from their website content.

However, not all publishers have the same monetization needs and goals. Google AdSense is a network of contextual text and display ads used on publishers' websites and mobile apps.

Google Ad Exchange is an automated marketplace for real-time buying and selling of ad inventory.

It offers publishers the opportunity to monetize their inventory with multiple demand partners.

On the other hand, Google AdX also serves as an auction platform where advertisers can bid on ad placements based on the user's profile information and interests, not just on keywords or demographics.

Every new publisher eventually comes across the dilemma of choosing between native ads and display ads.

While each of them is effective in its way, they are pretty different from one another. Let’s have a quick look at what they are.

Display ads are the traditional banner ads that can be static images or animated GIFs and are the most common type of digital advertising.

Such ads are designed to grab the audience’s attention, drive traffic to the advertiser’s website, and increase brand awareness.

Native ads are content that's created to look like a part of the site or app it's on.

They're designed to fit in with the rest of the content on a page and are sometimes hard to distinguish from other stories or articles.

Native ads offer both publisher and advertiser benefits, such as increased user engagement and a better user experience.

Therefore to maximize your revenue, you need to figure out the best fit for your content and growth strategies.

Increasing revenue is important to all publishers, and that prerogative might have brought you across the term “ad refreshing.”

While nothing new, ad refreshing can help you increase viewability and eCPM, but only if done right.

A technique that allows you to request and render new ad creatives on an existing inventory, ad refresh will enable you to leverage time spent on the page and increase revenue by showing more ads to the user per session.

However, it is not as simple as it sounds. There are standards and implementation considerations that you need to acknowledge.

One misstep can cause your revenues to dip instead of soar. Furthermore, you also need to determine whether ad refresh is even a suitable option for you or not.

How do you do that?

By knowing the intricacies that affect ad refresh and this is where our article comes in.

The AMP framework has been adopted by over 50 million domains, even with its limitations! This is mainly because AMP can offer much higher eCPMs when implemented effectively.

A unified server-side auction management solution can bypass the limitations of RTC and increase competition by getting more bids, thus improving revenue.

A third-party AMP monetization suite can also do cookie syncing, which the RTC lacks to increase impressions and a dashboard that tracks everything happening!

Ad impressions decrease by 1.1% for mobile traffic and 1.9% for desktop traffic for every second of added latency to a web page. 📉

This is just one of the interesting findings from a study conducted by Google developers on the impact of latency on ad performance and overall revenue.

In a world where content is king, digital publishers need to find ways to improve their ad revenue.

But doing so without compromising user experience is no easy task. 😓

The higher the page latency, the longer users have to wait for websites to appear onscreen — which can be frustrating and lead them to abandon their browsing session.

Users want fast, responsive, and engaging content — meaning publishers that can’t deliver it are missing out on revenue opportunities. 💰

Additionally, high page latencies can negatively impact SEO rankings, as Google penalizes sites that perform poorly in this area.

Google Ad Exchange (or Google AdX) is among the best ad exchange marketplaces where publishers and advertisers can buy and sell ad impressions, for maximum revenue.

But how do you get a Google AdX account?

There are two ways in which you can get access to Google AdX:

⇒ Through Google: You can go directly to Google and a Google Account Manager will help you get access to AdX if you’re eligible.

⇒ Through a third party: If you are not eligible, you can still get access to Google AdX through a third party reseller. A Google-certified partner will resell your inventory through AdX, but they’ll charge about 10 to 20% of the ad revenue generated through AdX.
