Trump Halts Military Aid, Ukraine's Air Defenses Vulnerable to Breach

The freezing of arms aid by the administration of US President Donald Trump to Ukraine, Tuesday (4/3/2025), could have a serious impact on Ukraine's air defense system. However, this does not mean that Ukraine will be easily subdued and immediately surrender.

So far, the US has provided aid worth 180 billion US dollars, including military aid worth 66.5 billion US dollars. US arms supplies account for 20 percent of Ukraine's total weapons, especially long-range missiles from air defense artillery, namely Patriot missiles that can shoot down Russian ballistic missiles.

Since the war against Russian aggression three years ago, Washington has been Kyiv's main supporter. However, since Trump returned to the White House and intended to end the war immediately, everything has slowly changed.

After re-establishing communication with Moscow, Trump began to reduce "support" for Kyiv. So far, US military aid has not only been in the form of weapons and ammunition.

Ukrainian troops rely on the Starlink communications system supplied by Elon Musk and US intelligence information to track Russian troop movements and guide Ukrainian attacks. The suspension of US satellite data and information will hamper Ukraine's offensive capabilities. Other Western allies have not been able to supply the information they need.

Trump wants Zelenskyy to be more realistic about the current situation. So, what aid has the US suspended now?

Trump ordered the suspension of military assistance and weapons that have been approved and are being delivered. An anonymous source said it was not explained what weapons were being stopped and how many.

Since the beginning of the conflict, the US has supplied weapons and technical assistance through the PDA scheme which is the authority of the President and does not require the approval of the US Congress.
