Morcos Key’s Designer-in-Residence APPLICATION OPEN!

The Morcos Key Designer-in-Residence is a unique confluence of design work and design play aimed at designers seeking to combine experience in a small studio with a furthering of their personal practice. The DiR is both a working position and an opportunity to create new independent work: the DiR will participate directly in client projects and daily studio operations in addition to developing an outside project with the Partners’ guidance.

Morcos Key invites driven, conceptual thinkers who are able to articulate their ideas into clear writing, actionable strategies, and powerful design work. We are looking for curious designers—those who are asking how to expand their design skills to reflect personal interests, those with a track record of formal experimentation, those who are ready to take passion projects into real-world applications. Candidates should have a BFA or MFA in Graphic Design, or be pursuing one currently. Strong typography skills are a must.

This is an hourly paid, part-time position, 2–3 days per week for a duration of three months.

While international submissions are welcomed, this position is not a remote one. Please note that we are unable to sponsor international candidates for a Work Visa at this time. We hope to change this in the near future.

To apply, please send the following materials to [email protected]:

–Resume (1 page)

–Bio (100 words)

–PDF Portfolio: No more than 5 projects, with a description for each detailing the concept behind the project and your role in creating it

–Independent Project Description (250 words): What are you passionate about / researching / thinking about? How would you like to develop your interests into a tangible project? Is it a brand new idea, or are you already working on a project? What are some ways in which Morcos Key can help you in the process

Repost from
This volume offers a deep look at Saunders’s dynamic and multilayered paintings—works that bring together formal training and lived experience, fusing found materials, vibrant color, and expressive mark-making into richly built surfaces that reward careful and sustained looking. Documenting his 2024 exhibitions at David Zwirner and Andrew Kreps Gallery, the publication includes a facsimile of his seminal 1967 pamphlet Black Is a Color, offering a compelling exploration of Saunders’s wide-ranging practice and lasting influence.

“Toward the Sky’s Back Door”, published by the Tang Teaching Museum and DelMonico | D.A.P. (), is the first major monograph on American artist Paula Wilson (b. 1975) . Living and working in rural New Mexico, Wilson seamlessly integrates painting, sculpture, printmaking, and textiles into her multidisciplinary practice.

Designed in close collaboration with Wilson and curator Rebecca McNamara (), the book rejects rigid structure, instead interweaving plates with essays by Taylor Renee Aldridge (), Ebony Y. Rhodes (), and Stephanie Sparling Williams () to mirror the layered, nonlinear nature of Wilson’s work.

Materiality is central to the design, with a screenprinted cover—based on one of Wilson’s pieces—extending her tactile approach beyond the pages. Every detail, from the interplay of textures to the organic flow of images and text, reinforces the book as an immersive, dynamic object—an extension of Wilson’s art itself.

Working closely with the and the National Gallery of Art , Morcos Key designed the book highlighting the work of pioneering Black printmaker, sculptor, and activist Elizabeth Catlett.

The book “Elizabeth Catlett: A Black Revolutionary Artist and All That It Implies” offers a fresh perspective on the nearly century-long career and brings overlooked works to light alongside her most iconic masterpieces.

The design and essays honor Catlett’s artistic legacy while making her work resonate with a younger, contemporary audience. The flush-cut trim and underlined headlines give the book a distinct, object-like presence, subtly echoing the tactile quality of her etchings. Exploring the diverse influences that shaped her practice, the book bridges past and present to highlight her enduring impact.

BLK MKT Vintage: Reclaiming Objects and Curiosities That Tell Black Stories celebrates a vast collection of Black vintage and historical objects, honoring the rich narratives they carry.
The book’s design reflects the depth and diversity of the collection—spanning multiple time periods—by arranging objects organically on the page, emphasizing their materiality, presence, and the intentionality of collecting. This dynamic layout embraces a bold, playful, and maximalist aesthetic, with objects seemingly overflowing beyond the page’s margins. From Jannah Handy and Kiyanna Stewart’s Brooklyn brick-and-mortar BLK MKT Vintage to its online presence, the book underscores the archive as both a necessity and a way of life.

“Called to the Camera” is a new publication designed for the Exhibition with the same title at the New Orleans Museum of Art (NoMA — ).

The book illustrates the artistic virtuosity, social significance, and political impact of Black photographers working in commercial portrait studios during photography’s first century in the United States.

The publication features more than one hundred extraordinary vintage photographs, many of them unique objects and some, published here for the first time. Highlighting Black subjects on both sides of the camera, Called to the Camera presents a broader and more inclusive history of photography.

The publication we designed for , the second volume in the editorial program of the 2019 Sharjah Architecture Triennial.
In this volume, published by , contributors reflect on environmental justice and provide a non-Western perspective on architectural activism.
The publication takes a broad look at the challenges and forms of violence communities face as a result of climate change. Leading scholars think through such resistance via examples that include Hannah Arendt’s work on Algerian Jews, intergenerational violence and archaeological evidence in Palestine, music and displacement in the shadow of the Aswan Dam, and more.
The book combines essays, roundtable conversations, photographic plates and translations, punctuated by the striking photography by Satoshi Fujuwara .hd

New work for
Renowned for his powerful paintings of American life and scenery, Winslow Homer (1836–1910) remains a consequential figure whose art continues to appeal to broad audiences.
Morcos Key designed the catalog for The Met's "Winslow Homer: Crosscurrents" exhibit to showcase, monumental seascapes, dramatic scenes of rescue and hunting and emblematic images of the Civil War and Reconstruction. Using the centerpiece of the exhibition "The Gulf Stream" on the book's jacket, the design unfolds echoing the waves of Atlantic Ocean.
