Beneath the Surface — Episode 4 is live.
This week, artist and detectorist Merrill Kazanjian sits down with Subterrix founder Ryan Marcus for a real conversation about where the metal detecting industry is headed — and why technology should enhance what skilled detectorists already do, not replace it.

They dig into the current state of the hobby, the role AI and data are starting to play in the field, and why the best technology in the world still can't replace experience, instinct, and time in the dirt.

Big news — we’re officially launching Subterrix Go.

Subterrix Go is a new way to experience the power of Subterrix in a simpler, guided, step-by-step format.

Built on the same powerful platform behind Subterrix Pro, Go gives detectorists another way to use the same tools, same data, same account, and same credits — just in a format that feels more straightforward from the very first screen.

This came directly from listening to users.

Over and over, we heard the same thing: people love the power of Subterrix, but they also want different ways to use it. So that’s exactly what we built.

With Subterrix Go, you simply choose the tool you want, answer one question at a time, enter your location, and get your result. And anytime you want to go deeper, you can toggle over to Pro right inside the platform and access the full Subterrix experience.

Inside Go, five of our most popular tools are now available in this simple one-question-per-screen format:

GoDEEPSTRIKE — Where should I detect?
GoExpedition — Is this spot worth hunting?
GOiLiDAR — What’s hiding underground?
GoRe-Con Property — Who owns this land?
GoFieldIQ — How should I set up my detector?

And the best part: you can switch between Go and Pro anytime.
Same account. Same credits. Same data.

This is just one more step in where we’re headed. We’ll keep listening, keep building, and keep finding new ways to make the most powerful metal detecting platform ever created work for more detectorists in more ways.

We’re proud of this launch, and we think a whole lot of people are going to love what Go brings to the hobby.

Log in to Subterrix and try it out.

DEEPSTRIKE is officially live on Subterrix and out of Beta. And I'm going to tell you right now — this is the most powerful tool in all of metal detecting.

You'll notice the name: DEEPSTRIKE by Merill. When it came time to put a name on our most powerful tool, there was only one person it could be. Merrill Kazanjian is my business partner, a staple in this community, and one of the most gifted detectorists I've ever had the privilege of knowing. Naming this after him wasn't a marketing decision — it was the right thing to do. This tool represents everything he brings to the hobby, and I wanted that attached to something worthy of it.

So what does it do?

Give it a city. Give it a state. DEEPSTRIKE scans thousands of locations across 31 intelligence layers and tells you exactly where you should be detecting and why. Historical settlements. Military encampments. Old churches, homesteads, fairgrounds, colonial-era sites you didn't even know existed 20 minutes from your house. It finds them, scores them, and ranks them — backed by real historical records, soil data, terrain analysis, land access, foot traffic patterns, and more.

Nobody's secret spot is safe anymore.

Think of it this way. A lot of you already use our Expedition Report — you give it a location, and it gives you a full intelligence breakdown before you ever put your coil in the ground. Hundreds of you have told us how much it's changed the way you prepare for a hunt. DEEPSTRIKE is that same engine in reverse. You don't give it a location. You don't need a lead. You don't need a buddy who knows a guy. DeepStrike does the research for you and tells you where to go.

This is for every detectorist who's ever sat in their truck and thought "I have no idea where to go today." For everyone who drives to the same park every weekend because they don't know what else is out there. For anyone who's ever been curious about a town or a county but didn't have the time to dig through old maps and records to figure out if it's worth the trip.

DEEPSTRIKE answers that question for you. And the answer is going to surprise you.

This is live right now for all Subterrix members. Go run a scan. I promise you're going to find places you never knew had detecting potential — and you're going to want to hit every single one of them.

🎙️ Beneath the Surface Podcast | S1 E5 (May 7th)

Ryan Marcus is joined by his new partner and co-host Merrill Kazanjian for an upcoming conversation with Joanna Jana Laznicka, founder of Focus Speed.

Episode 5: Focus Speed: The Science Behind the Search with Joanna Laznicka

Joanna is widely respected in the metal detecting community for her research-driven approach, combining real-world field experience with historical analysis, site research, and collaboration with archaeologists and geophysical professionals.

She’s built Focus Speed to raise the standard - delivering content that goes beyond surface-level advice and instead focuses on accuracy, context, and responsible recovery.

Behind the scenes, Joanna has also played a key role in shaping Subterrix. Joanna has pushed for a more intuitive user experience, demanding higher standards for data accuracy, and offering direct (and sometimes brutally honest) feedback to ensure the platform delivers real value without compromise.

This episode won’t be surface-level. It’s a conversation with someone who challenges assumptions, values precision, and is committed to moving the entire detecting space forward.

BIG news. HUGE!!

Metal Detecting NYC(Merrill Kazanjian) has joined Subterrix as an equity partner.

Not a sponsorship. Not an endorsement. Merrill is now a partner to Founder, Ryan Marcus. Merrill will be shaping product development, creating content, and helping bring Subterrix to the wider detecting community.

More importantly, Merrill is a practitioner. He swings a coil. He's one of the most respected and recognized voices in the metal detecting community, a leader in the hobby who has earned that reputation through years of honest, independent work in the field.

Subterrix was built by a detectorist for detectorists. Now one of the best in the country has a stake in making sure we get it right.

More coming soon.
