We love coffee. We love books. And we love when our friends and clients open super cool coffee shops that are bookstores too. So we were extra in love when our previous client — who founded an equally awesome plant store called Plant Roots (right next door to The Bookery) — asked us to design their newest venture’s logo. The place is seriously cool and beautifully designed, so we leaned into an equally classy “Beasts of England” serif for a typographic approach that pays homage to the books-and-lattes atmosphere.

Huge congrats to both The Bookery and Plant Roots on winning Best of Philly 2026. Well deserved!

Designing for a yearlong art exhibition on the theme of “Free Assembly” was an interesting beast. The idea had to hold together for an extended period of time. It had to stand out among the other exhibits and pull people in. But most importantly, it needed to be about ideas and concepts that communicated important themes of our republic — themes that are often taken for granted or forgotten altogether. Our solution, then, was to tie all the exhibitions together by centering them around the Stars and Stripes assembling around one another in novel ways.

When two music industry vets needed a community-focused logo for a new venture, we found some records, cranked the volume, and let the inspiration come through the speakers. Their business plan to help cut out the bureaucracy musicians and bands typically face to get off the ground, while also providing space and lessons, was seriously exciting. So we took inspiration from the huge legacy of music and the idea of community, combining elements that felt organic and grounded in neighborhood vibes, all with a musical Easter egg hidden in plain sight.

When your local orchestra has a legacy as strong as the Reading Symphony, updating the logo is as big an honor as it is a challenge. You need to preserve the past while ushering in the future, so our approach was an evolution, not a revolution. Pulling the identity away from its original typography and giving it a more modern spin was top of mind. In addition to the new logo, we created new seasonal, magazine-style program guides and street-facing window displays that hung in their corporate offices in downtown Reading.
