ProjectSeven as many of you are too aware was down for 27 hours and some change. One thing we pride ourselves on is transparency and security. So around June 10th-ish a root user popped up in one of our servers with a UID of 0 - that means two things.

- Some update used that user to install stuff. Why 0? Also we confirmed that nothing assumes that user.
- A rootkit was somehow established on the server. This is obviously the worst case but its nothing to play with. If we cant validate what made that account we can only assume the server was compromised and the things it touched.

So, Why did you not say something right away? Well we were unsure what the case really was and we did not want to be the "host that cried wolf". All jokes aside we made the choice to back up and restore all the while going through the files and looking for things associated to this user 0.

It was probably nothing and you're over reacting! You may be right about the "it was nothing" We are not going to take the chance that it may be something.

We spent late nights including HostDime Worldwide who helped us figure this out and moved huge bloated files back and forth. Bottom line is Security is #1 and we would rather take a couple days of downtime making sure everything is validated and secure. If anyone has any questions let us know. We win internet, We win.
