South Puget Sound Community College recently hosted a Career Pathways Q&A panel session in which regional employers, SPSCC faculty, alumni and current students gathered together on a video conference call to discuss employment and career opportunities. I wasn't sure what to expect, but I can say the event surpassed my expectations by a long shot. Recent graduates and current students had an opportunity to ask regional employers anything that they might be concerned with about as they work through a rigorous program at SPSCC. Employers shared what they seek most from their future workforce; a common theme was the "soft skills" around team-work, collaboration and empathy for their customers. Some students expressed concern that they might be exposed as an "imposter" and worried that there skills were not where they needed to be . All of the employers on the call, and the SPSCC faculty, assured these students that they're fears were unfounded and finding the right employer, willing to invest in their career development was not nearly as dauting as they might think. BrightWire in particular highly values interns and recent graduates of the SPSCC Cybersecurity and Network Administration Program. We've brought on quite a few CNA graduates over the years, and every one of them was what we like to call a "Rockstar". SPSCC runs an exceptional set of technology focused programs. If you are thinking of a career in technology, and especially if you are considering a career change, I highly recommend you look into what SPSCC offers.
