We honor the life and legacy of Rev. Jesse L. Jackson, a fearless advocate for economic inclusion, political empowerment, and justice.

From the streets of the Civil Rights Movement to the national stage, Jackson challenged America to expand opportunity—pushing corporations, institutions, and government to recognize the power, potential, and purchasing strength of Black communities. His voice helped redefine what participation in business and democracy could look like for generations who had been locked out.

As this 1983 Black Enterprise cover reminds us, his mission was always larger than politics—it was about ownership, access, and progress.

We extend our deepest condolences to his family and all who carry forward the work he so boldly advanced. His impact endures in every door opened, every barrier challenged, and every generation inspired to demand more.

We pause to honor the life and legacy of Rev. Jesse Jackson Sr, a towering figure in the fight for civil rights, economic justice, and political inclusion.

For decades, Rev. Jackson stood at the forefront of movements demanding that Black communities be seen, heard, and valued. Through the Rainbow PUSH Coalition, he championed voter access, corporate accountability, labor rights, and expanded opportunity for Black Americans.

For Black women, his work intersected with broader fights for equity, in healthcare, employment, education, and political representation. He consistently pushed institutions to recognize that justice must include those historically marginalized and underestimated.

His legacy is rooted in advocacy, coalition building, and the belief that collective action can reshape systems. đź’ś

We mourn the passing of Jesse Jackson, a relentless champion for justice whose voice and vision helped shape the modern civil rights movement.

For more than six decades, Rev. Jackson stood at the center of the struggle for civil rights, economic justice, voting rights, peace, and human dignity. As a teenage protégé of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., he bore witness to history at its most triumphant and its most tragic, including the assassination of Dr. King in 1968.

In the aftermath of that unspeakable loss, when many wondered whether the movement could endure, Jesse Jackson’s voice thundered forth—undaunted, unapologetic, and unwavering—carrying the clarion call for justice into a new generation.

Rev. Jesse L. Jackson, Sr. was more than a civil rights leader. He was a mentor, a movement builder, a coalition maker, and a moral compass for our nation. His legacy lives on in the millions he inspired, the institutions he built, and the doors he helped open for generations to come.

May his legacy serve as a reminder to recommit ourselves to the unfinished work he so powerfully advanced.

On this day in 1965, the historic Selma to Montgomery March culminated as thousands of demonstrators arrived at the Alabama State Capitol, marking a pivotal moment in the fight for voting rights. https://blog.obws.com

Led by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., the marchers embarked on a five-day, 54-mile journey. Under federal protection, they covered about 12 miles a day and slept in fields and makeshift camps along U.S. Route 80, enduring physical exhaustion and threats to demand equal voting rights for African Americans.

The march followed earlier attempts that were met with violent opposition, notably the events of "Bloody Sunday" on March 7, 1965, when peaceful protesters were brutally attacked at the Edmund Pettus Bridge. Despite these challenges, the marchers persevered, and their efforts contributed significantly to the passage of the Voting Rights Act of 1965, a landmark achievement in the Civil Rights Movement. ✊🏾
