🔧✨ Little Upgrade + Big Cleanup = Happy PC ✨🔧

Today’s project: giving an older Dell OptiPlex 790 a fresh lease on life!

✅ Installed a WiFi card — No more Ethernet-only limitations. This classic office machine is now fully wireless and ready for modern home use.

🧼 Deep cleaned the CPU cooler & blower housing — Check out the before and after pics!
Dust buildup like this traps heat, increases fan noise, and shortens component lifespan. A proper cleaning improves airflow, lowers temps, and helps the system run smoother and quieter.

It’s always satisfying to take a machine from dusty and restricted… to clean, upgraded, and ready for another round of service. 💨💻

If you’ve got an older desktop that needs:
• A wireless upgrade
• A deep clean
• Performance improvements
• Or just a general checkup

Quest 3 resurrection project 🛠️🥽

Had my Meta Quest 3 go completely dead — no power, no charging light, nothing. Ran through all the standard troubleshooting, only to confirm it was out of warranty. At that point, it became a learning project.

My suspicion: a bad update left the headset in a weird limbo state. The battery still had charge, so the system never truly shut down. I could have waited for the battery to drain on its own… but where’s the fun in that?

So I carefully disassembled it just enough to disconnect the battery ribbon cable, held the power button for ~30 seconds to fully discharge any residual power, reconnected the battery, hit power — and it immediately booted back up like nothing ever happened.

Fully alive. No data loss. No replacement needed.

This is the kind of stuff I genuinely enjoy: understanding what’s actually happening under the hood, diving deeper than surface-level fixes, and getting the most life possible out of hardware. Sometimes the fix isn’t magic — it’s just knowing why a system is stuck and giving it a proper reset.

Shoutout to a client keeping a Windows 7 system alive for legacy music production software 🎶💻

This machine was throwing constant blue screens of death, all pointing at a “driver issue.” Instead of guessing, I ran Dell’s built-in diagnostics and tested the memory one stick at a time. Sure enough, one RAM module failed every single test.

I swapped it out with a compatible stick I had on hand, and just like that — no more blue screens. The system is stable again and back to doing what it needs to do: keeping their music production business running without forcing a risky OS or software change.

Old systems don’t always need replacing — sometimes they just need the right troubleshooting. 👍

Shoutout to a recent customer who trusted me with a laptop hinge repair 👊

Laptop hinges usually fail from metal fatigue over time — repeated opening and closing eventually causes the mounting points in the lid to become stiff or seize up completely. When that happens, pulling on the lid can break the mounting screws from the cover.

For this repair, the solution was a full top cover replacement. I transferred the screen, camera, microphone, and all mounting standoffs from the damaged cover into the replacement cover, then reassembled and installed everything properly. The result: the laptop now opens and closes smoothly, with solid hinge support like it should have from the factory.

If your laptop lid is stiff, cracking, or cracking when you lift it, don’t wait — hinge damage only gets worse. Reach out and I’ll take a look. 💻🔧

Big shoutout to a recent client PC that came in with some seriously frustrating stability issues under load.

This system was experiencing black screens and GPU crashes during demanding games and benchmarks. After a full teardown and diagnostic process, I addressed multiple contributing factors to make sure it runs cool, stable, and reliable going forward:

● Replaced the factory power supply with a properly rated, high-quality unit capable of handling modern GPU power spikes
● Reconfigured BIOS settings to disable aggressive motherboard auto-boosting, keeping the CPU within safe, stock behavior
● Optimized the cooling setup by reworking fan orientation and overall airflow
● Converted top exhaust fans to intake to feed fresh, cool air directly to the AIO radiator
● Tuned fan curves for maximum cooling efficiency without unnecessary noise
● Added a GPU support stand to correct significant sag on the RTX 3080 and reduce long-term stress on the PCIe slot
● Cleaned up and synchronized RGB so everything looks as good as it runs
● Fresh Windows install, updated drivers, and thorough stress testing with real-world GPU loads

It’s worth noting that many prebuilts (including systems from brands like CyberPower) are often shipped with bare-minimum spec power supplies. They may work fine at first, but as components age or workloads increase, those PSUs can become a major source of instability.

The result here: lower temperatures, no more crashes, and a system that performs the way it should have from day one.

If your PC is crashing, overheating, or just not behaving the way it should, feel free to reach out.

Huge shoutout to one of my awesome customers for trusting me with this custom PC build for their friend.

This one was a fun mix of new and used parts, carefully selected to get the most performance and value without cutting corners. I added some custom touches to really elevate it, including clean GPU extension cables and a fully customized AIO screen to give the build a polished, personal look.

This is exactly why I love doing builds like this. Turning a pile of parts into something unique and dialed in for someone else to enjoy. Thanks again for the support and trust. If you’re thinking about a custom build, whether it’s brand new, used parts, or a mix of both, you know where to find me.

✨ Client Shoutout! ✨

Had a laptop come in this week with an old failing hard disk drive that was barely hanging on. The system was crawling, throwing errors, and worst of all--it held priceless baby photos that the family thought might be lost.

I swapped the old drive out for a brand-new NVMe SSD (about 20× faster than the original!), reinstalled everything clean, and pulled the pictures off the dying HDD before it finally gave up for good.

The laptop is now blazing fast and, most importantly, all those memories are safely back where they belong.

Always a great feeling when a repair saves both performance and irreplaceable moments. 💛📸

If you’ve got an older system running slow or making strange noises, it might be time for an upgrade before the drive calls it quits--happy to help!

🔥 From Chaos to Clean Power — A PC Redemption Story 🔥

This week, I had a customer bring in a PC that looked fine at first glance — it booted up, ran for a few minutes… and then crashed hard after a short time gaming. What followed was a deep dive into one of the messiest builds I’ve seen — and a complete transformation.

Right away, I noticed no XMP profile was activated, meaning the RAM was crawling instead of running at its rated speed. Then, as I moved the case, the power supply nearly fell out — it hadn’t been screwed in at all and was a side-plug unit in a case that wasn’t made for it.

Next, I found that the back cover wouldn’t close due to chaotic cable management. The NVMe covers were swapped because the previous builder hadn’t moved the standoff, and every single fan — including the AIO pump — was daisy-chained into a single case fan header. That meant everything — fans, pump, and all — spun at the same speed. Even worse, every fan was set to exhaust, creating massive negative pressure.

RGB? Not configured.
Graphics card? Sagging, crooked screw, one mount used.
PCI slot covers and lock? Missing.

The USB3 Cable was disconnected and wedged between the motherboard and the mounting tray! 😳

After diagnosing everything, I rewired and rebuilt the system — properly mounted the PSU, realigned the GPU, balanced airflow, fixed the fan and pump wiring, enabled XMP, configured the 5900X for the MSI B550 Tomahawk, and installed all the proper drivers, software and lighting controls.

Now, the system runs cool, quiet, and stable — and it finally looks as good as it performs.

💻 Built right. Wired right. Tuned right.
That’s the OC Computers difference.

💬 Client Feedback That Made My Day!

A while back, I built James an absolute gaming powerhouse — a Ryzen 9 5900X and RTX 4070 combo built for high performance and long gaming sessions. Recently, he brought it back for a few upgrades and optimizations: a new NVMe SSD for lightning-fast load times, extra RAM for smoother multitasking, and high-quality case fans to keep things cool and whisper-quiet.

After the work, James sent this message that perfectly sums up why I do what I do:

“Hello! Just wanted to reach out and give you some feedback. The PC is still running absolutely fantastic and the speeds are very noticeable and it’s so quiet I feel like it’s a whole new build 😂. Thank you again!!”
— James

It’s always awesome to see a high-end build performing better than ever. Whether it’s a new gaming rig or tuning an existing one, I make sure every PC runs cool, quiet, and powerful — just the way it should.

This week, a client came in with a powerhouse PC that had one big issue — fans running like a jet engine and temperatures that were way too high. After a full diagnostic and some targeted upgrades, the system is now cool, quiet, and incredibly fast.

I installed a new NVMe SSD, which is light-years faster than the old SATA drive — Windows now boots in seconds. We also added more RAM for smoother multitasking and upgraded the case fans for better airflow and lower noise.

Now the system runs cooler, quieter, and more efficiently than ever — no more noisy fans interrupting gaming or work sessions.

Big thanks to my client who brought in their HP laptop that was stuck endlessly at the HP logo with the spinning circle of doom. At first, it looked like the hard drive had failed — the system couldn’t see it at all — but the diagnostics said otherwise.

After digging deeper, I discovered that the drive itself was fine, but the storage drivers had vanished. I tracked down the correct drivers from HP’s website, loaded them onto a USB drive, and used a Windows installation USB to load them manually. As soon as I did—BAM!—the recovery environment recognized the drive, and I was able to repair the EFI bootloader and scan system files.

The result? The laptop is now booting beautifully, and all the important documents were saved.

Sometimes, what looks like total failure is just a few layers of problem-solving away from recovery.
