Quick upgrade story — this one turned into a full mission.

I was running a Ryzen 5 5600X system with a PNY RTX 5070. Solid setup… but the CPU was starting to hold things back — especially in PCVR and certain games. Add in slower compile times and it was time.

Then came the twist:

DDR5 prices have gone crazy (thanks to AI demand) — so replacing perfectly good DDR4 just didn’t make sense.

So the goal became:
👉 Fix the CPU bottleneck
👉 Max performance
👉 Keep DDR4
👉 Spend smart

After a lot of research and deal hunting, I landed on:

Intel Core i5-14600KF
MSI PRO B760-P WiFi DDR4 motherboard
Reusing my Samsung B-die RAM

Tried a refurbished board first… showed up damaged 😅
Sent it back and went with a clean MSI PRO board — right move.

Installed an LGA1700 contact frame as well — improves CPU mounting pressure, better contact with the cooler, and lower temps overall.

The result?

Massive difference.

APK bundle time: down to ~3m 24s
System responsiveness: instant
Multitasking: effortless
Gaming + PCVR: way smoother (no more CPU bottleneck)
RAM performance improved thanks to the newer CPU memory controller
Cooler temps with the contact frame helping everything run more efficiently

This wasn’t a small upgrade — it completely changed how the system feels.

The takeaway

You don’t need the newest parts — just the right ones.

If your PC feels off or you’re planning an upgrade, I can help you figure out the smartest path.

OC Computers — quick turnaround, clear answers, no guesswork.

This one’s a little special to me.

This image is AI-generated, but it’s based on my actual car—with a full OC Computers wrap concept. Honestly… seeing it like this just hits different.

I used to spend hours walking around CompUSA back in the day, staring at shelves full of parts I didn’t fully understand yet. GPUs, motherboards, cables everywhere—I just knew I was fascinated. Fast forward to now, and I’m building, repairing, and optimizing systems all the time, not just for myself but for others too.

There’s something I genuinely love about getting a machine running exactly how it should—whether that’s squeezing out performance, fixing a stubborn issue, or helping someone finally enjoy their setup the way they’re supposed to.

That curiosity never really went away—it just turned into something I get to do for real.

If you’ve ever been frustrated with your PC, or just feel like you’re not getting the most out of it, that’s exactly why OC Computers exists.

And yeah… maybe one day this wrap won’t just be AI 😉

🔧✨ Little Upgrade + Big Cleanup = Happy PC ✨🔧

Today’s project: giving an older Dell OptiPlex 790 a fresh lease on life!

✅ Installed a WiFi card — No more Ethernet-only limitations. This classic office machine is now fully wireless and ready for modern home use.

🧼 Deep cleaned the CPU cooler & blower housing — Check out the before and after pics!
Dust buildup like this traps heat, increases fan noise, and shortens component lifespan. A proper cleaning improves airflow, lowers temps, and helps the system run smoother and quieter.

It’s always satisfying to take a machine from dusty and restricted… to clean, upgraded, and ready for another round of service. 💨💻

If you’ve got an older desktop that needs:
• A wireless upgrade
• A deep clean
• Performance improvements
• Or just a general checkup

Message me — I’d love to help!

Quest 3 resurrection project 🛠️🥽

Had my Meta Quest 3 go completely dead — no power, no charging light, nothing. Ran through all the standard troubleshooting, only to confirm it was out of warranty. At that point, it became a learning project.

My suspicion: a bad update left the headset in a weird limbo state. The battery still had charge, so the system never truly shut down. I could have waited for the battery to drain on its own… but where’s the fun in that?

So I carefully disassembled it just enough to disconnect the battery ribbon cable, held the power button for ~30 seconds to fully discharge any residual power, reconnected the battery, hit power — and it immediately booted back up like nothing ever happened.

Fully alive. No data loss. No replacement needed.

This is the kind of stuff I genuinely enjoy: understanding what’s actually happening under the hood, diving deeper than surface-level fixes, and getting the most life possible out of hardware. Sometimes the fix isn’t magic — it’s just knowing why a system is stuck and giving it a proper reset.

Shoutout to a client keeping a Windows 7 system alive for legacy music production software 🎶💻

This machine was throwing constant blue screens of death, all pointing at a “driver issue.” Instead of guessing, I ran Dell’s built-in diagnostics and tested the memory one stick at a time. Sure enough, one RAM module failed every single test.

I swapped it out with a compatible stick I had on hand, and just like that — no more blue screens. The system is stable again and back to doing what it needs to do: keeping their music production business running without forcing a risky OS or software change.

Old systems don’t always need replacing — sometimes they just need the right troubleshooting. 👍

Shoutout to a recent customer who trusted me with a laptop hinge repair 👊

Laptop hinges usually fail from metal fatigue over time — repeated opening and closing eventually causes the mounting points in the lid to become stiff or seize up completely. When that happens, pulling on the lid can break the mounting screws from the cover.

For this repair, the solution was a full top cover replacement. I transferred the screen, camera, microphone, and all mounting standoffs from the damaged cover into the replacement cover, then reassembled and installed everything properly. The result: the laptop now opens and closes smoothly, with solid hinge support like it should have from the factory.

If your laptop lid is stiff, cracking, or cracking when you lift it, don’t wait — hinge damage only gets worse. Reach out and I’ll take a look. 💻🔧

Big shoutout to a recent client PC that came in with some seriously frustrating stability issues under load.

This system was experiencing black screens and GPU crashes during demanding games and benchmarks. After a full teardown and diagnostic process, I addressed multiple contributing factors to make sure it runs cool, stable, and reliable going forward:

● Replaced the factory power supply with a properly rated, high-quality unit capable of handling modern GPU power spikes
● Reconfigured BIOS settings to disable aggressive motherboard auto-boosting, keeping the CPU within safe, stock behavior
● Optimized the cooling setup by reworking fan orientation and overall airflow
● Converted top exhaust fans to intake to feed fresh, cool air directly to the AIO radiator
● Tuned fan curves for maximum cooling efficiency without unnecessary noise
● Added a GPU support stand to correct significant sag on the RTX 3080 and reduce long-term stress on the PCIe slot
● Cleaned up and synchronized RGB so everything looks as good as it runs
● Fresh Windows install, updated drivers, and thorough stress testing with real-world GPU loads

It’s worth noting that many prebuilts (including systems from brands like CyberPower) are often shipped with bare-minimum spec power supplies. They may work fine at first, but as components age or workloads increase, those PSUs can become a major source of instability.

The result here: lower temperatures, no more crashes, and a system that performs the way it should have from day one.

If your PC is crashing, overheating, or just not behaving the way it should, feel free to reach out.

Huge shoutout to one of my awesome customers for trusting me with this custom PC build for their friend.

This one was a fun mix of new and used parts, carefully selected to get the most performance and value without cutting corners. I added some custom touches to really elevate it, including clean GPU extension cables and a fully customized AIO screen to give the build a polished, personal look.

This is exactly why I love doing builds like this. Turning a pile of parts into something unique and dialed in for someone else to enjoy. Thanks again for the support and trust. If you’re thinking about a custom build, whether it’s brand new, used parts, or a mix of both, you know where to find me.
