What an interesting find tonight when doing some network management on my home network. After capturing some packets and checking out their sources, I noticed one perfectly stubborn IP that was connecting in multitudes of 2-3 times every few seconds. Getting to the bottom of it, I followed the link (after properly checking that it was a non-malicious link) and was greeted with a short explanation about the endpoint, and how it was used to manage cookies for many larger electronics companies.
However, one interesting thing I found on the page was the ability to opt out of data collection during internet browsing. Below is the link to follow, once there click "opting out" and select the check boxes of the companies you wish to no longer collect data on you. Some of them you have to follow a link to be added to the "opt out" list, but most of them you can do from the landing page on that site.
https://www.w55c.net/ (note, at the bottom it will ask you if you would like to accept this sites cookies, you do not need to do so, and frankly I would suggest not to, as we are on this site to get less tracking cookies on our PC's not more!).
(You will do no harm by visiting the site and/or opting out from data collection). This is just one step towards making our data private again. If you are having a hard time understanding the website, or are just plain scared you might ruin something we certainly can help you out with this!
