Most contractors get the primary category wrong.

"General Contractor" is broad. "Drywall Contractor" or "Excavating Contractor" tells Google exactly what you do, and that one field decides more of your ranking than anything else on the profile.

It's one of the first things to check when looking at a Google Busines Profile.

We put together a full checklist for setting one up properly. It's free, send us a message and we'll send it over.

D'Mejia's Drywall got two inquiries through their website this past week.

One from a homeowner in Atascadero. The other from a general contractor inviting them to bid on a commercial project through the website form submission.

Two months ago they had no working website and no Google 6profile at all. Everything came from word of mouth.

Now the leads come from a few places, the website, Google profile, social, and more referrals.

It's a slow start but it's building. This is usually the part contractors put off the longest.

If nobody's finding you online, send us a message.

Most contractors think marketing means posting on social media.

It doesn't. There are five pieces, and they only work together.

Posting matters. So do ads. But on their own they won't get you found, because the way people look for a contractor changed. They search on their phone, read reviews first, and call someone in the top three.

Here's what actually gets you the call:

1. Your Google Business Profile
Only three show on the map before people stop scrolling. Most contractors have a profile. Very few have a finished one.

2. Reviews
Not just trust, they decide who Google puts in that top three. Replying counts too.

3. Your website
Nobody calls off the map without checking you first. It doesn't need to be fancy. It needs to load fast and work on a phone.

4. Paid ads
Worth it, but only on top of the rest. LSA ranks on your reviews and how fast you answer, not your budget.

5. AI search
Google now answers with AI before it shows results, and it pulls from whoever already ranks. Nobody in the trades around here is thinking about this yet.

Most contractors do one of these and wonder why the phone is quiet.

Fix the profile, get the reviews, build the site. Then you're the one the map shows and the one AI repeats.

Your competitor isn't better than you. He just shows up first.

Want to show up first when someone searches for your trade?

At PyreBrand Designs, our goal is to get contractors at the top 3 on Google Maps, the only spots that show before someone has to click "More places."

Here's why it works:

Intent: These are people searching for your service right now, not scrolling past an ad.
Compounding: Rankings build as reviews and activity stack up, and they don't stop the day you stop paying.
Opportunity: Most contractors have never touched their Google profile. That's the whole opening.

Almost every contractor we scan ranks fine right around their own shop and disappears two towns over, which is usually where the bigger jobs are.

Not only that, we run it in the order most agencies skip: fix the profile, build the reviews, then turn on ads. Do it backwards and you pay more per lead than the guy sitting above you, permanently.

Want to know where you currently rank?

Send us a message with your trade and your city. We'll run the scan and send it over. No charge.

MP Junk Removal & Hauling has been doing solid work around Ventura County. On time, fair pricing, gets it done, the kind of business people recommend to their neighbors.

But if you didn't already know Martin's name, you weren't finding him. No website. A Google listing with almost nothing on it. Every person searching "junk removal near me" was calling somebody else.

That's fixed.

1. New website built to turn a search into a phone call
2. Google Business Profile fully built out, categories, services, service areas, job photos
3. Review requests going out after every job

The foundation is in. From here local SEO compounds, rankings climb as reviews build and the profile stays active. It's not a switch you flip, it's a base you stack on.

If your business is in the same spot, good reputation, invisible online, that's what we do. Message us and we'll show you where you currently rank on the map.

Four things worth fixing on your contractor page this week.

1. Put your license number on your profile. In California, your page legally counts as advertising. Most contractors have their number on the truck and the business cards, and nowhere online.

2. Use real project photos. Stock images of generic job sites fool nobody, and they quietly cost you trust with the exact person deciding whether to call.

3. Show finished work. Half-built and mid-demo shots are interesting to you. Buyers want to see the after.

4. Reply to every comment. Engagement is what determines whether your next post gets seen at all. A page that never replies gets shown to fewer people every time.

None of these take more than a few minutes. All four together change how your page reads to someone deciding whether you're the one to call.

Something most contractors don't realize about Google.

The map results at the top and the website links below them are ranked by two completely different systems.

The map runs on your Google Business Profile, your categories, your reviews, how close you are to whoever's searching, and how active the profile is.

The website links run on your site, the words on it, the pages you have, who links to you.

Which means you can have a great website and still be invisible on the map. That's the situation most contractors I talk to are in, and they usually think the fix is a new website when it isn't.

If you've been wondering why you don't show up on the map, that's usually why.

Want to know where you actually stand? Send me a message and I'll take a look, no charge.

Quick question for contractors: when's the last time you replied to a Google review?

We took over a client's profile with 230+ reviews and not a single response. Great reviews, great work, but silence. Here's the thing: Google pays attention to engagement. An active profile that responds to reviews ranks better in local search than one that just collects them.

It's one of the easiest wins in local SEO, and almost every contractor we audit is missing it.

If you haven't touched your Google Business Profile in months, that's exactly the kind of thing we fix. Send us a message and we'll take a look.

To every construction contractor on the Central Coast doing great work that nobody online knows about yet, this one's for you.

I started PyreBrand Designs because I kept seeing the same thing: hardworking local contractors being completely ignored by the marketing world. While tech companies and modern brands get all the attention, the guys actually building this community can't even be found on Google. That's something I want to help change.

Going forward, I'm focusing our services specifically on the construction industry, it's where we can make the biggest impact.
PyreBrand will focus on working with local construction contractors on the Central Coast, helping them get found online, build their reputation, and win more bids. Website, Google Business Profile, social media, Local Services Ads (LSA), and Google Ads, built for construction contractors, not corporate brands.

If you've been meaning to get your online presence together but just haven't had the time, let's talk. I'm local and easy to reach.
