Many years ago I was reading a magazine, and in a little side bar on the corner of the page, there was a word with a definition. The word was meraki—a word that, in modern Greek, is used to describe doing something with soul, creativity, or love – when you put “something of yourself” into what you’re doing, whatever it may be – a mix of love and style and enjoyment. It is the passion for perfectio

nism and the obsession, the ultimate personal care, during a creation. I tore off the corner of the magazine and carried it with me for years. And I’ve been thinking about it ever since. Always in the back of my mind. Knowing that this is how I felt about my work. Knowing that this is, quite simply, what I do. As a graphic designer, I have worked in many different capacities throughout all phases of the design development cycle—from initial research and analysis, through graphic design and the creative process, and finally production, both for print and web. I work on a wide variety of projects–logos, collateral, newsletters, annual reports, presentations, events, websites–for medical professionals, non-profit organizations, recruiters, software developers, and more. The most rewarding aspect of my work is working hand-and-hand with clients to build their brand identity—starting with a logo and and building upon that first design to extend across all aspects of their business. Making sure that at every point along the way, their clients have a cohesive brand experience. I specialize in the development of strong brand identities, cohesive marketing programs, and graphic design for both print and the web. I work with clients with a variety of needs—either on a project by project basis for defined projects—or on an on-call basis, acting as an extension of (or even in lieu of) your own design and marketing team. Whether a project is two hours or two hundred, each and every project is completed with meraki.

Connected Horse, one of my long-time clients dedicated to providing equine-guided workshops for those living with dementia and memory loss, is hosting their annual fundraiser event, Lassos with Love. The event features demos by Kansas Carradine and her horse Dude from Cavalia; Carla Preyer, one of our participants who is featured in the documentary Facing the Wind; along with live and silent auctions, great raffle prizes, and an afternoon filled with delicious food and wine, inspiring stories, and a lovely setting in the east bay hills. Many years ago I was reading a magazine, and in a little side bar on the corner of the page, there was a word with a definition.
