As the weather turns and it gets harder to visit in person, video calls become an even better way to stay close to the people who matter.

A few tips for a smoother call: find a spot with good lighting facing a window if you can, keep your device on Wi-Fi rather than cellular data when possible, and close other apps running in the background to free up bandwidth. A little prep goes a long way toward a call that actually feels like time well spent.

✨MVT'S BUSINESS OF THE MONTH - WILDFLOWERS!✨

This month, we're so excited to spotlight Wildflowersmv, a charming new boutique and flower shop in Overton, owned by longtime Moapa Valley resident Donna Swanson-Forrester!

Donna has called Moapa Valley home with her family for the past 32 years and loves being part of this wonderful community. Many locals probably know Donna from her 25 years of teaching art in our local schools, where she has shared her creativity and passion for art with generations of students.

Donna's love for floral design began about 28 years ago when the owner of a local flower shop asked her to help make arrangements during the busy Valentine's Day season. What started as lending a helping hand quickly blossomed into a passion! Mostly self-taught, Donna spent hours looking through floral catalogs and magazines, experimenting with different designs, and learning along the way. Over the years, she put those skills to use creating beautiful arrangements for family weddings, funerals, and other special occasions. Her love for floral design has only continued to grow, and she still enjoys learning new techniques, exploring different styles, and finding new ways to be creative.

After years of sharing her artistic talents with others, Donna decided it was time to turn her longtime dream of owning a shop into reality. With the encouragement, support, and helping hands of family and friends, Wildflowers officially celebrated its grand opening on October 31st!

But Wildflowers is so much more than a flower shop! Along with beautiful floral arrangements, you'll find unique gifts, home décor, artwork, and plenty of other treasures. Whether you're shopping for a special occasion, searching for the perfect gift, or simply stopping in to browse, there's something for everyone! Donna hopes to make Wildflowers a welcoming place where friends and neighbors can gather, visit, and enjoy a little creativity.

November is Native American Heritage Month, a good time to recognize and learn about the Native communities and history connected to the land many of us call home. If your area has a local cultural center, museum, or event honoring this month, consider checking it out or supporting it.
