Laptop not turning on after an improper shutdown can be scary! Just helped a client out at the office with this issue and it ended up being a pretty quick fix.

Each manufacturer has different methods for a hard reset, but it usually involves disconnecting all peripherals/chargers and holding down the power button for a specified amount of time. This is because static buildup or system crash can prevent the machine from turning back on after an improper shutdown. Holding the power button down in this case will drain residual power from the motherboard, performing the hard reset.

This by no means is a fix for every instance of this issue, but it is something relatively easy to attempt before giving up on the machine and buying a new one!

Windows 11’s optional update, KB5089573, is the first release from Microsoft’s secret Project K2 initiative aimed at improving performance through 2027. The update introduces a Low Latency Profile that boosts CPU speed for important tasks, delivering up to 70% faster flyouts and 40% quicker app launches. Users can manually install this preview update via Windows Update or Microsoft Update Catalog for immediate performance gains.

An interesting yet extremely relevant request from a client in Palm Desert. As you can see, he has a pretty beefy DJ setup with an older MacBook.

There weren't any issues, however he wanted advice on how to get the most life out of his system. This is something we think we can all appreciate in the current economic climate especially with rising hardware costs due to AI.

We walked him through some optimization steps/techniques for both the machine and software to alleviate any wear and tear on the already older system to help with his longevity concerns. GITHUB BREACH! 😡

The popular open source platform, GitHub, was breached following an employee's device being compromised. The attackers claim to have exfiltrated approximately 3,800 internal repositories containing source code and internal organization data tied to GitHub's main platform, a figure GitHub says is "directionally consistent" with its own investigation.

GitHub says there is currently no evidence that customer repositories hosted on the platform were compromised, as the breach was limited to GitHub's own internal repositories.

Even without customer data exposure, the breach poses serious supply chain risks because leaked internal repositories could reveal operational tooling, internal APIs, authentication workflows, and infrastructure configurations that attackers could exploit in future attacks.

You won’t look cool in these glasses, but the target audience for Project Aura isn’t the average Joe in the same way that Meta’s Ray-Ban glasses are. They’re a starting point for XR diehards who want a more portable and discreet version of a headset. Case in point: Navigating Aura’s interface is nearly identical to the Galaxy XR’s.

BitLocker zero-day exposes Windows drives as PoC goes public 😨

The BitLocker issue, named YellowKey, was published by a researcher using the monikers Chaotic Eclipse and Nightmare Eclipse. It affects Windows 11 and Windows Server 2022/2025 and relies on Windows Recovery Environment, the mode used to troubleshoot boot problems.

The risk is most immediate for devices using TPM-only BitLocker, a common setup that automatically unlocks the operating system drive during startup. That convenience makes recovery-time abuse dangerous: the device can decrypt itself before a user proves identity.

Microsoft’s BitLocker guidance says startup PINs and other protectors can add pre-boot authentication for higher-risk devices. However, the researcher claims a separate TPM+PIN path exists that has not been fully disclosed, leaving defenders with an incomplete technical picture.

EBay rejects GameStop's $56 billion bid

"We have concluded that your proposal is neither credible nor attractive," eBay Chairman Paul Pressler said in a statement. "eBay's Board is confident the company, under its current management team, is well-positioned to continue to drive sustainable growth."
He also pointed to concerns with ​GameStop's bid, including its financing, its impact on eBay's long-term growth and the leadership structure of a potentially combined company.
GameStop did not immediately respond ​to a request for comment.
