🐸 SEO Masterclass — Part 4 of 4. The finale.
We've built the technical foundation. Dialed in the on-page signals. Earned authority through links. Now we put it all to work in the arena where BarkingFrogSEO was built — local search.
Here's the truth most national agencies won't say: local SEO is the highest-ROI channel for most small businesses. Not ads. Not social. Local search — people in your area, phone in hand, looking for exactly what you do.
Google ranks local businesses on three factors above everything else.
Relevance — does your business match what the searcher needs? Your GBP categories, service descriptions, and website content all need to tell the same clear story. Your primary GBP category is the single most influential local ranking factor — above everything else.
Proximity — how close are you to the searcher? You can't fake distance, but a stronger prominence score widens your effective ranking radius.
Prominence — how trusted is your business, online and off? This is where everything from Parts 1–3 feeds directly in: technical health, on-page signals, backlinks, reviews, and your full digital footprint.
What actually separates the local 3-pack from everyone else.
Your GBP is a living signal, not a one-time setup. Profiles that rank well show consistent activity: recent reviews, owner responses to every one, fresh photos, updated services, regular posts. Static profiles decay. Google interprets ongoing activity as proof of a real, operating business.
Reviews account for up to 16% of local Map Pack ranking factors. Recency and velocity matter more than total count. And 68% of consumers won't use a business rated under 4 stars — so the floor is non-negotiable.
NAP consistency — your Name, Address, and Phone — must be identical across every listing. One wrong number across 30 directories quietly suppresses your rankings without you ever knowing why.
Locally relevant backlinks punch above their weight. A link from your Chamber of Commerce or a Utah news outlet carries more local ranking power than a generic national link with higher authority. That's an edge national competitors can't replicate.
The 2026 layer most businesses haven't thought about yet: local AI visibility.
Over half of local search terms now trigger an AI Overview. Being the source Google's AI cites for local queries is the new local 3-pack. And the signals that get you there are the exact same ones that rank you in Maps. One strategy. Every surface.
That's the Masterclass.
Technical → On-Page → Links → Local. Four pillars. One connected strategy. This is how we've helped Utah businesses get found for 15+ years.
