WHEN SHOPPING FOR A NEW COMPUTER, what components do I need to look for? The key components are: CPU/PROCESSOR, MEMORY, and DRIVE.
CPU/PROCESSOR: Be sure to get a fast enough processor as modern applications are pretty demanding. I would recommend a PROCESSOR/CPU that is at least 3.5Ghz or more. An Intel Core I5 is probably "the most bang for the buck". Intel's competitor.. AMD is making some serious breakthroughs and their latest product, Ryzen 3rd gen is also a great option. Many of their 2nd gen Processor/CPU's are good too, just don't go with a budget one.
MEMORY/RAM: Get at least 8GB or more if the software you are going to run requires it. Most people will be fine with 8GB.
DRIVE: Get a Solid State Drive (SSD). If what you are looking at says HDD then that is NOT what you want. It should say SSD. Now if the computer you are looking at has both, then that is usually fine providing the SSD is at least 120GB. Many machines have both, an SSD for Windows and apps, and a large inexpensive HDD (mechanical drive) for bulk data storage like videos, pictures and music.
For most basic and business use desktop computers, I recommend the Lenovo M900 SFF (small form factor) computer.
For Laptops, I recommend the Lenovo Thinkpad. Of course their are many others that are good too, just be sure to pay attention to the key components I described above..
Also we specialize in custom-built gaming, special purpose, and refurbished machines, please inquire.
One more thing.. When shopping for a new computer, if it is too cheap, it will most likely will offer poor performance, so double check the specs described above and feel free to contact us with any questions.
