Another step forward on the tiny home cabin conversion!

We’re working our way through a renovation of this old bunkhouse, with the goal of turning it into a fully functional rental property.

Right now, we’re tackling the full electrical rewire as part of the renovation.

Everything was looking good on this kitchen remodel until it was time to slide the stove into place!

The stove and its handle stuck out a little farther than we anticipated, creating an issue with the drawers in the corner cabinet.

Rather than tear anything apart, we extended the face frame 2ish inches and had new, slimmer drawer boxes and fronts made to get everything working properly.

Would we have preferred the face frames on both corner cabinets to match? Absolutely. But the stove fits, the drawers are still functional, and we found a way to make it work with this new kitchen layout.

These replacement windows are finally wrapped up!

Between the framing being out of square and trying to match the existing trim around the transom windows, this one took quite a bit of custom milling, scribing, and fitting.

The goal was to make the new trim blend in with the existing so everything looked intentional.

Now that everything is prepped and finished with 2 coats of paint, can you tell this was a patch job?

These replacement windows have been anything but a straightforward trim job.

With the existing framing out of square, plumb, and level, we’ve had to custom mill and scribe every piece of trim. The backcut/lap joints allow us to maintain our ¼” reveal around the new windows while keeping everything flush with the existing trim above.

A little extra figuring and a whole lot of custom fitting, but we’ve got one side completely trimmed out and ready for final prep and paint!

The window installer got the new windows in, then called us to help put everything back together.

Only problem? The existing framing isn’t square, plumb, or level.

So instead of standard trim installation, we’re custom milling and scribing each piece to fit, including cutting lap joints to tie the new trim into the existing window jambs.

Sometimes the finish work takes a little more figuring than the installation itself.
