Summer travel tip: protect your tech like itâs part of your luggage, because it is.
Whether youâre heading across town, across the state, or across the country, your devices are carrying more than photos and playlists. They may also hold work emails, passwords, financial apps, client information, business files, and access to your accounts.
Before you hit the road, keep these tech travel tips in mind:
Donât leave devices in your vehicle.
Laptops, tablets, phones, and hotspots are easy targets for theft, even if theyâre tucked under a seat. Heat can also damage batteries, screens, and internal components faster than you think.
Restart your devices when traveling.
A quick restart can help resolve temporary issues, refresh connections, and apply pending updates to keep your device running safely.
Be careful with public Wi-Fi.
Wi-Fi at airports, hotels, restaurants, and events can be risky. Avoid logging into banking, business accounts, or sensitive systems on public networks unless youâre using a trusted VPN.
Watch your devices in crowded spaces.
Keep phones, wallets, cards, and laptops close. Crowded places are prime spots for theft, skimming, shoulder surfing, and malicious actors looking for easy opportunities. RFID blocking wallets are a cyber friend.
Use your own chargers and cords.
Public charging stations may be convenient, but itâs safer to use your own wall plug or a portable battery pack.
Lock it down before you leave.
Use strong passcodes, enable multi-factor authentication, enable device tracking and disk encryption, and back up important files before your trip.
A little preparation can save you from a major travel headache.
Before you pack the sunscreen, snacks, and sunglasses, take a few minutes to secure your tech.
Stay safe, stay cool, and stay cyber aware this summer.
