We’re excited to announce that Jacob Horn has recently accepted the role of Supervisor out of Waco Texas area!

Jacob joined ELM Utility Services in 2024 as a Locate Technician and quickly demonstrated a strong commitment to growth and leadership. In 2025, he advanced into a Lead Technician role, and in 2026 was promoted to Supervisor.

When asked about his promotion, Jacob shared that he pursued the opportunity to not only to advance his own career but also to help contribute to the continued growth and success of ELM.

As he steps into this role, Jacob’s priorities include encouraging employee performance, improving productivity, boosting team morale, and reinforcing ELM’s commitment to safety.

Jacobs experience as both a Locate Technician and Lead Technician has provided him with valuable field and leadership experience, helping prepare him for the next step in his career.

We’re excited to announce that Orville Dotson has recently accepted the role of Area Manager, based out of Reno, Nevada area!

Orville brings more than 11 years of locating experience to the role and has demonstrated a strong commitment to growth throughout his career. He originally joined ELM in 2015, beginning as a Locator Technician before advancing into Auditor and then Field Supervisor position, where he worked closely with leadership to learn operational processes and strengthen team performance.

When asked about his promotion, Orville shared that he is excited for the opportunity to continue progressing within the company while helping grow the area, strengthen relationships with contractors, and share his knowledge and experience with fellow technicians.

As he steps into this role, Orville’s focus is centered on maintaining the quality of work performed by his team while continuing to build strong partnerships with contractors and customers.

We’re excited to announce that Kyle Heptner has recently accepted the role of Infrastructure Services Manager!

Kyle Joined ELM Utility Services in June 2024 as Jr. System Administrator. Since then, he has quickly progressed through key roles, including a promotion to Infrastructure Administrator in January 2025, and most recently to Infrastructure Services Manager in February 2026. His growth reflects a strong commitment to learning, development, and operational excellence.

Kyle has demonstrated a consistent ability to support and improve our systems while fostering a collaborative team environment. Notably, he played a crucial role in helping ELM maintain its SOC 2 Type 2 compliance and significantly strengthen the organization’s overall security posture.

As he steps into this role, Kyle is focused on ensuring our systems remain secure, scalable, and reliable, while positioning the team to handle increased demand without disruption.

Melanie Joined ELM Utility Services in June 2022 and has continued to grow throughout her time with the company. Starting as a Locator Technician, she advanced into a Trouble Technician role before moving into a supervisor position, demonstrating strong leadership, dedication, and a commitment to continuous growth along the way.

When asked about her promotion, Melanie shared that stepping into this role feels like “the first real career” she has invested in and expressed excitement about continuing to grow with a company she truly believes in.

As Area Manager, Melanie is focused on expanding into new areas, building strong relationships with contractors and utility companies, and continuing to support operational success across her team.

Throughout his career, he has progressed through several positions, including Locate Technician, Lead Tech, Supervisor, building a strong operational foundation and leadership skillset along the way.

When asked about this promotion, Mike shared that he is excited for the opportunity to work with a larger team and make an even greater impact across operations.

⚠️ Near Miss. Major Impact Avoided.

Photo of the Month winner, Cade Matye of the Great Falls, Montana, team responded to a locate request involving the removal of a pedestrian bridge. The requestor originally planned to cut the exposed pipe at each end with a grinder — but made the smart decision to contact 811 first.

During the locate, Cade identified the line as an ACTIVE 76 PSI gas pipe and documented the situation as a Near Miss.

This is exactly why damage prevention matters. One call prevented a potentially dangerous incident and protected both people and infrastructure.

Great work by Cade for staying vigilant and helping keep the community safe.
