Real-world feedback from the people running the system matters most.

Visual Designer & Engineer Kevin Adams recently operated this five-server Disguise EX3+ package in Sacramento, configured with two actors, two understudies, and one director—plus his laptop as a mobile edit station.

His report from show site: “Everything went great on the gear side.”

That is exactly what we build for at HRE: complete media server systems that arrive configured, tested, backed up, and ready for the operator to get to work.

Thank you, Kevin, for the great feedback and for putting the system through its paces!

Our Disguise Essentials Training class at the HRE Phoenix office was a great two days of hands-on learning, practical programming, and real-world media server workflows.

Thank you to everyone who joined us August 18–19 and brought such great energy to the room. It was rewarding to see operators work directly with the Disguise platform, build their skills, ask thoughtful questions, and connect with others in the live-event community.

A strong turnout, an engaged group, and another successful training class in the books. We appreciate everyone who participated and helped make it a great experience.

More training opportunities are coming to HRE—stay tuned for future class announcements.

EDID Management in a Real Live Event Video System | Disguise + Pixelhue + Lightware

What happens to EDID when you put a 48×48 HDMI matrix between your media servers and video processor?

Drew Taylor takes us behind the scenes at the HRE Phoenix office during a real-world system test using Disguise VX4+ media servers, a Pixelhue Q8, and a Lightware 48×48 HDMI 2.0 matrix.

This upcoming production uses custom LED canvas resolutions, including 4136×1728 and 2688×2688. Custom resolutions can allow us to drive larger LED canvases efficiently with fewer media-server outputs—but once you start building more complex signal paths, proper EDID management becomes critical.

In this system, the Disguise servers feed the Lightware matrix before reaching the Pixelhue Q8. The matrix changes the normal EDID relationship between the Q8 and the media servers, so the correct EDID needs to be captured, stored, and presented back to each Disguise output.

Drew walks through how we:

• Read the custom EDID generated by the Pixelhue Q8
• Store and manage that EDID inside the Lightware matrix
• Assign it to the matrix inputs connected to the Disguise servers
• Verify that the correct custom resolutions are maintained throughout the complete signal path

This is also a good example of the preparation HRE performs before a system ever reaches show site.

Media servers, high-resolution switching, signal routing, system drawings, patch sheets, custom EDIDs, configuration, and complete shop testing all come together to make sure the system arrives ready for the demands of live production.

Planning an upcoming show and need help with media servers, system design, equipment, or technical preparation? Reach out to HRE.

PIXERA Demo Day at HRE

PIXERA stopped by the HRE office in Phoenix for a hands-on event demo day, giving local production professionals a closer look at its media server platform, creative workflows, and live-event capabilities.

Alongside the PIXERA demonstration, HRE hosted an open house showcasing several show-ready systems available from our rental inventory, including the Pixelhue P80, Ross Carbonite Ultra production switcher system, MacBook Pro Millumin kits, AJA Ki Pro recorders, and Panasonic AW-UE160 4K PTZ camera systems.

It was a great opportunity to connect with industry professionals, explore different production workflows, and see how these tools can work together as part of a complete live-event video system.

Thank you to the PIXERA team and everyone who joined us for the day at HRE Phoenix!
