One OT hour. WA electrician. Public works job.

Fringe as cash → $143.52/hr
Fringe into trust → $134.52/hr
Difference: $9.00 per OT hour. Every crew. Every job.

Now do that math across 1,000 OT hours a year.

That's just the OT trap. The bigger number is the credits nobody claims. Average opportunity we've seen across our client base? $8,200 per employee, per year.

Sept 10, 10 AM AZ, we run the actual calculator on YOUR real numbers. Live.

One payroll decision, three places it shows up: overtime, labor cost, profitability.

Gary Zimmermann and The Construction CPA break it down THIS FRIDAY, August 28. Sign up below!!!

⏱️ Cash fringe isn't just a payroll decision. It can have a ripple effect on your labor costs.

When fringe is paid as additional cash wages, contractors need to understand more than what appears on the paycheck.

There are bigger questions to ask:

👉 How does cash fringe affect overtime calculations?
👉 What does it mean for total labor cost?
👉 And how does that cost ultimately show up in job profitability?

That's where payroll and construction accounting meet.

On August 28, we at The Construction CPA and Gary Zimmerman of eBacon will break down the financial and payroll implications contractors should understand when paying fringe as cash.

CASH FRINGE → OVERTIME → LABOR COST → PROFITABILITY

One payroll decision can reach further into your financials than you might expect.

Half the industry is still running crews off paper timesheets and a group text.

Alex Kramer went on the American Subcontractors Association of Arizona with host Steven Cramer of Newbridge Business Solutions and Tim Bates of HENSEL PHELPS to talk about what's actually changing on job sites. Time tracking. Managing crews. Getting information from the field to the office without three phone calls and a truck ride.

Not the shiny stuff. The stuff that decides whether you make money on the job.

Certified payroll is not glamorous. Bona Fide Fringe Trust administration is somehow even less glamorous. Construction Executive named both to their 2026 Top Construction Technology Products™ list anyway.

Over 1,000 firms get invited to nominate every year. No fee, and not everyone makes it. So no, you can't buy your way onto this one.

Missed a certified payroll deadline?

Breathe. It's usually fixable.

Yes, a late report can mean withheld payments, a flagged contract, and an audit you didn't ask for. But there's a right way to catch it up, and a wrong way that makes it worse.

We broke down exactly what happens when you miss the deadline, and how to get back on track before it costs you.

Certified payroll is a pain in the @$$. But don’t take our word for it.

Hensley’s Paving is a real EBacon AND IVO Systems client—which is exactly what made this webinar so good.

No hypotheticals. No “imagine if…” scenarios. Just a real contractor talking about the real headaches that come with certified payroll and managing their operations day to day.

The paperwork.
The time.
The constant worry that something got missed.

Sound familiar?
Hear how Hensley’s Paving is tackling it with two systems they actually use every day.

July didn't slow down. Neither did the rulebook. Here's what changed while your crews were out in the field:

New prevailing wage schedules published July 1 across a pile of jurisdictions, New York's annual schedule included. If you're still bidding off June determinations, your numbers are already stale.

Illinois flipped a big one. As of July 1, apprentice fringe benefits have to match the full journeyman fringe rate (PA 104-0017). The old "pay apprentices a slice of fringe" move doesn't fly in IL anymore.

New York's off-site custom fabrication law is still frozen. A federal court suspended it, and the NYS DOL isn't enforcing while the case plays out. Don't bake it into your bids yet. Do keep watching.

And the one that bites in the fall: the old WH-347 is only accepted through September 30. After that, new form only.

Compliance changes quietly. Penalties don't.

BIG NEWS: eBacon just partnered with National Lien Services — and your accounts receivable is about to feel a lot better about it. 💪

Here's the deal: We make sure your workforce compliance and certified payroll are locked in tight. They make sure your payment rights are protected from first notice to final pay app. Over $37 billion in protected payments. More than 45+ years of combined experience.

Two systems. One less thing to lose sleep over.

You hired an apprentice.
You put them on a prevailing wage job.
You're paying them the apprentice rate.

So far, so good 👍

But here's the part that gets missed:
Every apprenticeship program has a ratio — a maximum number of apprentices per journeyman on the job.

Exceed that ratio, even by one person for one day, and every "apprentice" over the limit gets reclassified as a journeyman.

At the journeyman rate.
For every hour they were over the limit.

Now multiply that across a few pay periods and you've got back wages, fringe recalculations, and a certified payroll that doesn't match reality.

The worst part?
The ratios aren't universal.
They change by trade, by state, by program.
There's no single chart to memorize.

Nobody wakes up pumped about payroll compliance.

(If you do — we’re hiring in Customer Success and Sales to help others navigate it.)

But you still gotta know when the rules change. And they change all the damn time.
