Be careful if you have a we**am attached to your computer or you have a built in we**am installed in your laptop configuration. For as little as $40 a unscrupulous person can purchase a software called Black Shades and then send you an email with this embedded and take control of your camera. This has caused some really embarrassing moments for people. So if you are not using your we**am unplug it or ensure it is turned off. Better yet just put a piece of tape over the camera lens to ensure nothing is watching you.

More and more I see people using laptops for everything from school to their workplace. It seems everyone thinks if they have a password on their laptop they are safe. NOTHING could be further from the truth. If your laptop is stolen or if its left alone for a period of time it can be hacked in less than 2 minutes. What's worse is the software needed to hack it is available to everyone to download on the web! So how do you truly protect yourself?
There are a number of software's that make several claims about being able to encrypt your hard drive but the truth is it does not take much to break their encryption. The one that is solid as a rock and will protect you and or your organization is BITLOCKER which comes with Windows 7. You have options on how to install and save the recovery key. The recovery key is used in the event your hard drive crashes or has an issue booting and is maintained by your or your company. If you are using your computer on a DOMAIN you can publish your recovery key to your Active Directory as well. BITLOCKER has several ways you can set it up but the end result is your entire drive is fully encrypted and cannot be hacked. In fact if someone steals your laptop and pulls out your hard drive to install it in another computer it will not boot up because the TPM module on the new computer will not match keys with the encryption on your laptop.
In short if you are in business or city or even personal and you own a laptop and are not fully encrypting your hard drive with BITLOCKER its not if you will regret it, it's just when. To make things go from bad to worse if you have personal information on the laptop you are using and it gets in the wrong hands there are legal ramifications you may never overcome!
