Did you know that positive, helpful, empathic, and cooperative behavior starts to develop in the second year of life -- even though toddlers are more often considered possessive, selfish, and contrary? We study the development of these early positive behaviors in infants and young children. We are especially interested in what role social understanding and emotions play in the growth of early help
ing, sharing, and cooperating. Findings from our studies can be used to help diagnose and treat developmental problems and disorders starting early in life. They can also be used to design activities and environments for children in child care, or to design the toys and computer games you see in toy stores. Finally, many of the articles you read in parent magazines are written because of findings from our studies and others like them!
****We are always looking for young children to participate in our play based studies. If interested contact us for more information******
