Large homeschool curriculum does not always need every upgrade.

You might be surprised to learn that the upgraded title on the spine and cardstock covers is only about a $5-7 difference!

For a text-heavy history guide, I’d spend the money where it matters most—on the outside.

Double-sided black and white keeps the print cost down on large books. Like a lot.

The custom spine and cardstock covers make the book easier to find, nicer to use, and prettier on your shelf.
Totally worth it, in my opinion.

Save this for later and tell me tell me, does it feel more organized when you can read the titles of your books without pulling them off the shelf?

Strewing is one of my favorite low-pressure homeschool tools.

You simply place something interesting, “displayed” in such a where it will naturally catch the eye.

Some of my favorite learning moments have been inspired by:

A beautiful encylopedia propped on a bookstand over breakfast 

A learning mat on the table with an easy snack buffet

A virtuous  Young Man Magazine .mag in the bathroom 🤭

No big lesson.
No formal setup.
No “everyone gather around while I become Professor Mom.”

Just beautiful ideas sitting where curiosity can find them.

Sometimes nothing happens.

And that’s okay. Keep doing it.

Because sometimes the magical ember of self-education is sparked, and that is priceless.

Here’s the problem with chore charts that rotate too quickly:

The task never has time to become a habit.
And that is a costly mistake.
A new task lives in the prefrontal cortex.

That is the part of the brain doing the planning, remembering, deciding, and managing.

And this cannot be understated: it is an energy HOG.

But once a task becomes a habit, it starts pulling more from the basal ganglia, which takes a FRACTION of the energy to complete the SAME task.

That is the whole idea behind my system (heavily influenced by “Atomic Habits” by James Clear and “Laying Down the Rails” by Sonya Shaffer).

I want my kids to have enough time under my roof to build real habits for all basic household tasks.
So at the beginning of the school year, I decide (once!) each child’s:

morning chore (habit stacking)
dinner chore (habit stacking)
“anytime” chore (zone ownership)

These are written down right alongside their lesson menu’s so I hopefully don’t hear “moooom” 400+ times a day.

This part is key: train it in the beginning, keeping a close eye on it for 4-6 weeks until it’s habitual.
But then it pay the whole family back dividends forever.
