On June 19, 1865, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was issued, Union troops arrived in Galveston, Texas and announced that enslaved people were free.
For many enslaved people of African descent in Galveston, it was the first time news of emancipation had reached them.

Juneteenth became a U.S. federal holiday in 2021.
Today, it honors freedom, resilience, and serves as a reminder of an important chapter in American history.

Dear Friends,

Thank you for the continued support you have given to the Dani Duggan Scholarship Fund. My daughter Dani was chair of the Fine Arts department at Middleboro High School and in this role, she encouraged her students to study in all the arts: theater, music, art, film and technology. After her passing in 2022, this scholarship was created to reward those students who have met this goal and to support them as they moved forward to college and into the world fostering a love of the arts in their chosen careers. In this way, they mirror Dani’s values.

Initially, two scholarships were awarded, then three and now because of your generosity, five deserving 2026 graduates of Middleboro received awards, and the program has expanded to the Plymouth school district where another student received an award. We are growing! None of this would be possible without your support. Thank you!

To continue this important mission, I am excited to invite you to our annual fundraising event, The Loveboat Comes to Plymouth, MA, to be held at the Pinehills Golf Club Pavilion Room on Sunday, August 9, 2026, at 6:30 PM. The evening will feature Scott Record—entertainer extraordinaire, singer, impersonator, and comedian, a 7-piece band, a delicious dinner buffet as well as a cash bar. This year promises to be our best yet!
