On the left is coffee. It was once beans that were coarsely run through a grinder. Hot water will run loosely over it and brew 10 cups of coffee.

On the right is espresso. It was once beans finely run through a grinder. Just a portion of this will be packed with 30lbs of pressure into a puck at which point the machine will force pressurized hot water through it to make a tiny concentrated shot of espresso. It takes longer to grind. It endures more pressure and heat than the coffee. It makes a lesser amount of end product and yet tastes stronger in its’ 1oz than the entire pot of coffee.

If you’re feeling like trials are taking too long...like life is giving you more pressure than the rest...if you can barely stand the heat.. maybe you’re just espresso. Maybe 1oz of you is stronger than a whole pot of the rest of us.

Nothing much to see on demo day one. Demo is about 80% complete after week and a couple of loads of debris. All those 2x4s are coming out.

We continue to see multiple references to the ZUMO brand associated with the folks that took over the property at 42 Rutherford Street, including the online purchase of ZUMO beans. These are trademark violations. ZUMO has no association with any business operating at that location and are actively working to resolve the trademark violation. Any report via email to us regarding use of the ZUMO trademark at the 42 Rutherford Street address (including online) is GREATLY appreciated.

The container finally made it to Houston! We are in contract for a property and scheduled to take possession September 4th, which is now referred to as demolition day! Will post pictures in due course.

Well, well, well. Looks like the ever charming Nelson City Council kicked ZUMO to the curb and provided a path for the Fortunes to acquire an ongoing business for less than salvage value. Plenty of bad karma there including at the local rag. Immigrant beware, especially Americans.

The couple behind SOS café are looking forward to a bright future in their corner of Nelson’s CBD.

This Sunday, 9 to 3PM, we are inviting all Nelson area school administration (i.e. employed by the school including teachers; not students, parents, etc.) to come in and collect any available property that remains unsold. This include many, many items that we are not selling at auction - Dishes, utensils, espresso bar equipment, etc. Reasonable school ID is required. Items taken are recorded as a donation (no deduction for us) for IRD audit purposes. Please spread the word!

AS AN UPDATE - About 2PM on Sunday, we are going to being moving items into the carpark for FREE collection!!

The ZUMO USA expansion project is once again a priority, since Covid, other projects, and now the Nelson closing. Sadly, the promotion opportunities for Nelson were killed off by the Mayor and Nelson City Council. As a reminder, the cafe is open for the month of June. Lots of equipment remain so stay tuned for online auction announcements. Everything remaining must go!
