Direct mail day, and the last one before the holidays, so let us talk about the year-end card.
Most businesses treat it as a courtesy. It is closer to the least competitive mailing you will send all year. Every other month your postcard is fighting for attention against a mailbox full of offers. In December it is sitting next to cards from family, and it gets opened for the same reason those do.
A few things that separate a card that gets displayed from one that gets recycled. Print it on a heavy 16pt or 18pt stock so it stands up on a mantel or a reception desk. Skip the discount code entirely — the moment there is an offer inside, it becomes an ad and loses the thing that made it work. Hand-sign them if the list is small enough to make that possible. And mail early, the first week of December, so yours arrives before the pile forms.
