Vibe coding has sped up code generation: what used to take days now comes together in hours. But generation is only about a quarter of the path from idea to launch. The other three quarters (review, integration, release, maintenance) don't go away.

In a new column for Forbes Technology Council, our CEO Alexey Spas looks at how the shape of the backlog changes after the prompt, why "almost right" doesn't hold up in production for enterprises, and which practices are becoming table stakes: a controlled development environment, data preparation, guardrails for agents, and layered validation.

A few years ago, choosing a language model came down to a simple rule: more parameters, better results. Today that benchmark no longer holds in every case.

Gartner predicts that by 2027, task-specific small models (SLMs) will be deployed three times more often than general-purpose LLMs. Instinctools' engineers mapped out where this shift is already playing out.

A few figures from the article:

πŸ‘‰ Phi-4-mini runs on just 4GB of RAM, while top-tier GPT, Claude, and Gemini models call for GPUs priced at $25,000–35,000.

πŸ‘‰ 300 employees making five requests a day: roughly $720 a month on a frontier GPT model versus about $22.50 on Gemini Flash.

πŸ‘‰ Fine-tuning a large model drags on for months, a compact one for weeks. A project built on Mistral 7B took the team six weeks, lifting accuracy from 10% to 75%.

Large models keep their edge where deep reasoning and long context matter. But the question is moving away from "LLM or SLM" toward how to combine them: a large model coordinates, while lighter ones handle narrow tasks faster and cheaper.

A look at our work with Hiya Healthcare, a women-led digital health platform in the GCC focused on hormone and reproductive testing.

The project involved building a connected system β€” patient onboarding, lab workflows, doctor reporting, and CRM integration β€” with a privacy-first architecture designed to meet GCC regulatory requirements.

The slides below outline the challenge, what was built, and how the teams worked together. Sally Maddah, the company's founder, shared her feedback in a verified review on Clutch.co .

LLMs have quietly become infrastructure. The gap now runs between companies with clean data, working governance, and well-chosen use cases and everyone else still running pilots that lead nowhere.

We looked at how LLMs actually work across industries: the numbers, the cases, and the failures that rarely make it into a deck. Ten observations are below.

06/09/2026

The initial LLM hype has cooled. And what's left is a clear dividing line: companies that treated AI as a plug-in upgrade and those that did the harder work of rebuilding data infrastructure, governance, and workflows around it.

The difference shows up in the numbers.

Instinctools breaks down 25+ LLM use cases across industries (customer ops, HR, supply chain, legal, cybersecurity, manufacturing, and more) with real-world examples, honest risk analysis, and a practical framework for deciding when LLM investment actually makes sense for your business.

Building a digital health platform means making decisions that affect real patients. Getting the tech right isn't enough; you need to understand the system behind it.

Sally Maddah, Founder of Hiya Healthcare, summed up our collaboration and this task well:

β€œThey felt like a true technology partner rather than just an outsourced development team. Frankly speaking, we find them to be the dream team."

For Hiya Healthcare (a women-led digital health company in the GCC) we built a connected platform covering patient onboarding, lab workflows, doctor reporting, and CRM integration, with a privacy-first architecture designed to meet GCC regulatory standards.

The full story of the project, in Sally's own words, is on Clutch.co, where all our client reviews are independently verified. Worth a read if you're evaluating partners for a complex healthtech build.

When AI adoption outpaces governance, the gaps become expensive.

Pilots are deployed. Tools are in use across teams. Then legal asks: who signed off on this?

Only 1 in 5 companies can scale AI without running into compliance, security, or reputational issues.

"Most governance failures trace back not to model behavior but to ungoverned data β€” wrong lineage, missing consent records, and no clear ownership," said Ivan Dubouski, Head of AI CoE, Instinctools

The Instinctools team put together a practical framework for enterprise AI governance from risk classification to agentic AI controls.

Only 1 in 5 companies can scale AI safely. This guide breaks AI and governance into practical steps: seven core pillars, a self-diagnostic, and an actionable roadmap.

When technical documentation grows past a handful of manuals, the cracks get expensive: duplicated effort, inconsistent outputs, version-control chaos, manual rework across channels.

DITA XML was designed to fix this at the architecture level. One source. Multiple formats: PDF, HTML5, EPUB. Content reused across products, languages, and teams β€” down to individual paragraphs and keywords.

The Instinctools team behind DITAworks explains the standard, its four core principles, and why most implementations still go wrong.

Struggling with scattered, inconsistent documentation? Learn how DITA XML brings structure to technical content with modular authoring, single-sourcing, and multi-format publishing.

25 years in software development give you a particular perspective on how the industry works and where it tends to go wrong.

Alexey Spas, CEO and Founder of Instinctools, spoke with Goodfirms about culture, flexible engagement models, technology neutrality, and why most AI projects never reach production.

We picked five key ideas from that conversation and are sharing them here.
