🖥️ RETRO TECH: 25 Years Ago, Windows XP Changed Everything! 🌄💾

On October 25, 2001, Microsoft officially released Windows XP — an operating system that would go on to become one of the most beloved and recognizable versions of Windows ever created.

And this Sunday, we celebrate its 25th anniversary! 🎉

For millions of computer users, Windows XP represented a whole new era of personal computing.

Remember that beautiful green hill and bright blue sky? 🌄

That legendary wallpaper, known as "Bliss," became one of the most recognizable images in computer history. And believe it or not, it was an actual photograph taken in California's Napa Valley — not a computer-generated image!

But Windows XP was much more than a pretty desktop.

🎵 The unforgettable Windows XP startup sound.

💬 Chatting with friends on MSN Messenger.

🌐 Browsing the early Internet with Internet Explorer 6.

🎮 Playing 3D Pinball: Space Cadet, Solitaire, and Minesweeper when you were supposed to be doing something productive. 😂

Behind the scenes, Windows XP also represented a major technological milestone.

Microsoft brought its more stable Windows NT foundation to mainstream home computers, replacing the older Windows 95/98/Me architecture. For everyday users, that meant improved reliability, better hardware support, and a more modern computing experience.

And here's something remarkable...

Windows XP became so popular that Microsoft continued providing extended security support until April 2014 — nearly 13 years after its original release!

Even today, 25 years later, many computer enthusiasts still remember Windows XP as one of Microsoft's finest operating systems.

For an entire generation, that green hill wasn't just a wallpaper.

⚠️ Major Website Security Vulnerabilities Discovered — What You Should Know!

On October 21, 2026, the National Security Agency (NSA) issued an urgent cybersecurity advisory regarding two critical vulnerabilities affecting PHP, a technology used behind the scenes by millions of websites worldwide.

The vulnerabilities, collectively known as “PHP2Shell,” are serious enough that cybersecurity agencies are urging website operators to update their systems immediately.

🌐 WHAT IS PHP?

PHP is a programming language that helps power websites, online stores, customer portals, and content management systems such as WordPress.

Although most people have never heard of PHP, they likely visit websites that rely on it every day.

🔓 WHAT'S THE SECURITY RISK?

These vulnerabilities could potentially allow cybercriminals to:

⚠️ Gain unauthorized control of vulnerable website servers.

⚠️ Access sensitive information stored on compromised systems.

⚠️ Disrupt websites and online services.

⚠️ Use compromised servers to launch additional attacks.

The concern is significant because attackers may be able to exploit vulnerable systems without needing a username or password.

📸 FLASHBACK FRIDAY: Remember Your First Digital Camera?

There was a time when taking a picture meant buying a roll of film, hoping you got the shot, and waiting to have it developed.

Then digital cameras arrived — and suddenly you could take a picture and see it immediately! 🤯

By the late ’90s and early 2000s, digital cameras were becoming the must-have piece of technology. A camera with just **1, 2 or 3 megapixels** could seem pretty impressive, and a 64MB or 128MB memory card could hold what felt like a TON of pictures.

And speaking of memory cards…remember how many different kinds there were? 😄

Depending on which camera you owned, you might have had an entirely different type of card than your friends or family.

Today, most of us carry a camera in our pocket that's dramatically more powerful than those early digital cameras. But at the time, being able to take **unlimited pictures without buying film** felt like the future had arrived.

🚨 AM COMPUTERS — LOCAL PC ALERT 🚨

Over the past few weeks, we've seen a significant increase in computers coming into the shop with browser hijacks, so we wanted to put out a quick warning.

A browser hijack can cause:

⚠️ Constant pop-ups and fake virus warnings
⚠️ Your homepage or search engine suddenly changing
⚠️ Searches being redirected to unfamiliar websites
⚠️ Strange extensions appearing in Chrome, Edge or Firefox
⚠️ Notifications claiming your computer is infected
⚠️ Ads appearing where they normally wouldn't
⚠️ Your browser becoming slow or behaving strangely

One of the biggest things to remember: A message inside your web browser saying “Your computer is infected!” does not necessarily mean your computer actually has a virus.

❌ Don't call a phone number displayed in a pop-up.
❌ Don't allow someone you don't know to remotely access your computer.
❌ Don't click “Allow” when a questionable website asks permission to send notifications.
❌ Don't install software because a pop-up tells you to.

If something suddenly doesn't look right, close the browser and have the computer checked before clicking anything else.

We've been seeing enough of these recently that we wanted to make our customers and local community aware.

Be careful where you click DOWNLOAD!

Cybercriminals are creating convincing fake websites designed to look like legitimate software companies. You may think you're downloading a trusted program, but instead you could be installing malware or software that gives someone remote access to your computer.

Recent security reports have even identified fake Adobe Reader download pages being used to trick people into installing malicious software.

🛑 Before downloading software:

✅ Make sure you're on the company's official website.

✅ Be careful with Sponsored search results and advertisements. The first result isn't always the safest one.

✅ Double-check the website address before clicking Download.

✅ Don't install an unexpected "update" just because a webpage tells you that you need one.

✅ If a website asks you to run commands, disable your antivirus, or give someone remote access to your computer — STOP!

💡 Remember: Just because a website looks professional doesn't mean it's legitimate.

Taking an extra few seconds to verify where you're downloading from can help prevent malware infections, stolen passwords, and unauthorized access to your computer.
