🥎 HOMEPLATES & HOMETOWNS 🥎
I’ve seen a few comments about certain fields being slightly out of place or some smaller fields not being included, and I wanted to take a moment to address that.
This map was never intended to be geographically exact. The fields are positioned near their general vicinity, but not mapped with precise accuracy. The goal of this design wasn’t to create a technical layout—it was to create a conversation piece that captures the history, spirit, and legacy of the men’s and women’s slow pitch leagues, which began as the Rocking Chair League back in 1963.
I worked to include the more well-known fields that shaped the league across the decades. I know there are additional fields that meant something to many of you, and that some locations shifted, changed names, or disappeared over time. If a field is slightly moved or not pictured, it was never out of disregard. This project required balancing design, storytelling, and space while honoring as much history as possible.
At its core, this piece is about remembrance.
The rocking chair on the third baseline honors the Rocking Chair League and every person who helped build this community—players, coaches, sponsors, and families who shaped what we still get to experience today. The black sash is a symbol of those we’ve lost but will never forget.
For me personally, this project carries deep meaning. The chair on third and the red “CS” cap are tributes to my grandparents, especially my Pop, Arthur, who coached Captain Sam’s and passed earlier this year. The Hall of Fame emblem, the banners, the sponsor tributes—each detail represents someone who poured their heart into this league.
This design isn’t meant to be a perfect map.
It’s meant to be a memory.
It’s meant to spark conversations about the fields we grew up on, the hops we still complain about, the sunsets over the cornfields, the jets flying overhead, and the stories that live far beyond the baselines.
If it gets people talking about “remember when…” then it’s done exactly what it was created to do.
And I’m grateful that so many of you care enough to notice the details.
Thank you to all of those who have placed orders already. I greatly appreciate the support and hope to hear more stories about the ballfields that have shaped us as another season nears.
Kindly,
Tiffany Cratty
