Take one beautiful day, add hundreds of enthusiastic students, mix in hands-on learning, exciting career exploration and then top it all off with lunch. The result? A fantastic day at Build My Future Northwest Missouri!

We enjoyed meeting students and sharing information about careers at GRM Networks. Students rolled up their sleeves and gained hands-on experience splicing fiber optics, testing their skills in the timed ball drop challenge using mini excavators, learning about broadband installations, and exploring password safety through engaging, interactive activities. Prizes were awarded to the top four best times in the timed ball drop challenge with those students choosing from a YETI cooler, an Apple Watch SE, and JLab JBuds. 🎉

A shoutout to our industry partner — Vermeer Iowa and North Missouri -- for bringing a mini skid steer and giving students the opportunity to test their accuracy and equipment-handling skills in a pallet-stacking challenge. It was a fun, hands-on experience that gave students a glimpse into the precision and skill used in the field.

Thanks to everyone who helped make the day a success. The future looks bright!

Every time you tap "remind me later" on that update notification, you leave a door propped open for security breaches. Updates close holes that criminals already know about.

Turn on automatic updates for your phone, computer, and TV. Then check your router, your cameras, your doorbell, and any other apps for smart connected devices for firmware updates.

Aureon Awards Charity Grant to Journey for Joy Foundation

The Journey for Joy Foundation, Inc, a charitable nonprofit corporation, received a $500 Aureon Charity Grant to further its mission of supporting rural Iowans facing cancer. The grant application was sponsored by GRM Networks.

For the past 10 years Journey for Joy has supported Decatur County cancer patients by providing vital resources to individuals and families, helping ease the financial and emotional burdens of treatment. As cancer continues to impact Iowa communities, Journey for Joy is committed to helping as many rural residents as possible, including expansion into neighboring Iowa counties with similar needs. Grant funds will help purchase outreach equipment that gives the foundation a visible presence at community events and around southern Iowa.

GRM Networks and Aureon Support Downtown Revitalization in Lamoni

The City of Lamoni received economic support from GRM Networks and Aureon to help cover preliminary architectural fees for its application to the State of Iowa's Downtown Revitalization (DTR) program. Aureon awarded the city a $4,000 Ripple Effect grant for the project. GRM Networks contributed a $5,000 match through Decatur County Development Corporation using Economic Development Opportunity Funds (EDOF). These funds are unclaimed capital credits of former GRM Networks cooperative members from Iowa and may be donated to promote economic development in the community.

The City of Lamoni is partnering with Decatur County Development Corporation (DCDC) to pursue the DTR grant. The state program funds exterior improvements in traditional downtown districts, with a focus on the front and highly visible side facades of commercial and mixed-use buildings. Eleven downtown property owners in Lamoni have committed to the project, which allows the city to apply for the program's maximum award of $650,000.

The DTR program does not cover preliminary architectural work, so the city is required to fund that phase up front. Those fees are estimated at $18,000. With support from the Ripple Effect award, GRM Networks’ EDOF contribution, and a $9,000 investment from the City of Lamoni, the project can move forward with the initial phase. If the DTR application succeeds, the full facade project is expected to total roughly $1.3 million, with the state award matched by the City of Lamoni and participating property owners.

Presenting the grant are from left to right GRM Networks District Manager Michael Jordison, City of Lamoni Deputy Clerk Tami Shaw and Cierra Fountain, Executive Director of the Decatur County Development Corporation.
