Today we have another photo from the 1959 Wheatstone Bridge School, which was featured in our Throw Back Thursday post last week. Forty telephone linemen from across Missouri attended to learn about the latest technology at the time, used to locate and troubleshoot problems in copper lines. This photo features Richard Henry of Conception Junction, left, along with linemen from Higginsville and Lexington. Wheatstone Bridge School

This picture is from May 1959. GRM Networks, then known as Grand River Mutual, hosted a three-day telephone “bridge” school for 40 Missouri telephone linemen from independent telephone companies. The school was sponsored by the Missouri Telephone Association and demonstrated the use of the Wheatstone bridge – a test instrument that not only measured the resistance of telephone lines, but also helped technicians quickly locate problems in the long copper lines that connected homes and businesses.

In 1959, the Wheatstone bridge was a standalone tool used manually by technicians. Today, it is embedded in electronic circuits or chips and works automatically with digital readouts.

Yesterday we welcomed two summer interns to GRM Networks. Ethan Rhoades is attending the University of Missouri - Columbia and will be working this summer in our Princeton District. John Schreffler is attending State Technical College of Missouri and will be interning with our Outside Plant Department.
