Nobody wants to be the person who asks for a review.

A customer picks up the ring you resized or the necklace you fixed after they’d given up on it. They’re thrilled. And then you have to ruin the moment by asking them to go rate you on Google.

So most jewelers skip it and eventually wonder why the store down the street has 200 reviews and they have nine.

Reviews matter more in jewelry than almost anywhere else. The purchases are expensive, emotional, and infrequent, which means your next customer is doing homework long before they walk in. That homework is your Google page.

Jewel360 handles the asking. When a customer completes a purchase, the review request is sent automatically, timed for when the experience is still fresh and the customer is most likely to say something generous.

Requests route straight to Google and Facebook, where shoppers are already deciding whether your store is worth the drive. When reviews come in, the support assistant helps you respond promptly and professionally.

Your happiest customers are willing to vouch for you. Most of them just need to be asked, and now nobody on your staff has to do the asking.

Marketing texts get opened 98% of the time. Emails get opened 27% of the time.

That gap makes SMS look like free money, which is exactly where jewelry stores go wrong. Weekly texts urging someone to buy a $4,000 ring don’t convert. They get you unsubscribed.

Here’s how jewelry text message marketing works when you respect what you’re selling:

💎Restraint sells: Your customers make big, infrequent decisions, and they want you to treat those decisions with the weight they deserve. Weekly promos work for stores moving $20 items. Text your list only when you genuinely have something worth their attention, not before.

💎Your best-performing texts are the boring ones: A repair is ready. A custom order has arrived. It’s been six months since the engagement ring, so it’s time for a complimentary cleaning and prong check. Customers read these and come straight back through your door.

💎Milestones are when people buy jewelry: Birthdays, anniversaries, and graduations all create a reason to shop. Customers read 90% of texts within three minutes, which makes SMS the channel most likely to reach them on the day it matters.

💎Teach sometimes instead of selling: Send a link on how to clean and care for a piece, or explain how diamonds are graded. It costs you nothing, and it makes the next promotional text feel earned rather than intrusive.

💎For VIPs, skip the template: A repeat customer picking up a custom order deserves a message that sounds like it came from someone who knows them. And you already have their purchase history sitting in your point of sale (POS) system.

💎Build the list at the counter: Train your staff to mention it when the POS prompts them for a phone number at checkout. Read up on TCPA rules before you send anything, because opt-in compliance isn’t optional.

Every text you send is read. Send accordingly.

A customer calls about the diamond studs she saw last week.

You search “diamond studs” and get 47 results, because three staff members entered the same style under three different SKUs.

You find the right pair. The listing says “in stock,” but they’re actually out for repair.

Most jewelry inventory problems trace back to the same root. Your system knows what an item is, but not which one it is or where it went. Here’s how to organize jewelry inventory so that stops happening:

🧹 Clean your data before you organize anything. Most stores are running on years of inconsistent entry, where the same ring lives in your system as “14k gold band,” “14K GOLD BAND,” and “14kt gold wedding band.” Choose one master SKU for each item, merge the rest, and fix incomplete records in batches of 20–30 instead of trying to do it all in a weekend.

🔢 Serialize every piece, not just every style. A SKU tells you it’s a 1-carat white gold solitaire. You might have five of those, and each has a different certificate, supplier, and stone quality. Serial numbers tell you which one you’re holding. When a $12,000 bracelet goes missing, they tell you exactly when it left the store.

🗂️ Organize deeper than “rings.” 300 rings under one category means endless scrolling. Break them down by metal and purity, then by stone and setting. Physical counts become faster too, because you’re counting platinum engagement rings instead of “all rings.”

🔗 Attach repairs and appraisals to the item record. When a piece goes out for sizing, its status should change in the same place its serial number lives. That’s the difference between answering a customer’s question in 10 seconds and calling her back tomorrow.

📋 Track memo goods separately from what you own. Mixing consignment with owned inventory distorts your cost of goods sold (COGS) and creates vendor disputes you’ll spend hours untangling.

🚩 Flag anything that’s been sitting for more than 90 days. Slow-moving inventory compounds, and the longer it sits, the steeper the markdown you’ll eventually have to take.

In most retail, disorganized inventory is annoying. In jewelry, where a single piece can be worth $12,000, it’s a liability you’re carrying around without knowing it.

On the surface, 2026 looks like a strong year for jewelry retailers.

Look a little closer, though, and the story gets more complicated.

Higher average tickets, fewer transactions, and changing buying habits are creating new challenges for independent jewelry stores.

Our Jewelry Industry Report combines transaction data with insights from independent jewelers to show what's changing — and what it means for your jewelry store.
