Final color vs where we began on a recent Samsara ad. Creating a balanced look with higher intensity and focus was the goal in the cockpit. Fixing the hard temperature cast on the other clips was the goal. These were previously captured files that needed some care to recover. Love how they turned out for the big day

I tried to pull temperatures to a more normalized tone and build up an intensity to the racing clips, especially inside the cockpit.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WjvHZ-hSzEo Coloring a commercial for the Super Bowl is a really unique honor. Thank you to Michael Matassa for the incredible opportunity. His edits always sing. Pulling together these shots and building up the intensity to match the feeling inside the car was an exciting challenge.

Patience in the cold: I shot this in Timelapse mode on my original BMPCC in raw .dng. Luckily I was able to pull some of the highlights back as the morning got a lot brighter than I expected and I didn’t want to disturb the camera to ramp down my exposure till I was finished. I layered in a few other adjustments to make the transition from start to finish flow better. Love tackling challenges like this where our eyes make the needed adjustments so perfectly without our notice but motion picture only has this narrow window to work optimally within so we have to modify and adjust without the audience’s notice. I shot some Super8 film recently that I’ll be sharing and it’s just as important to work within that window with film as it is with digital, though the bias there leans toward this sort of over exposure. I’m excited to see what a high bitrate scan of motion picture film can do in DaVinci Resolve. Film making is magic. I love it.

This was a really interesting rescue project. The original camera files were unavailable. All my client had was the finished edit locked in with a LUT on some of the interview clips and a few other clips. They wanted to know if I could improve it. I got to work first standardizing the interviews to come up with a matching look for all of them so the disparity between those with a LUT and the rest was unnoticeable. Then I worked in some polishing and built those so they felt good. Then I worked through the other scenes to build a natural and organic feel to the rest of it. I was fairly impressed with how well it all turned out.

I really value working with such a talented team of professionals. These compositions were funny, memorable and impactful. Creating a subtle organic feeling look to complement the style and performance was really a treat. So happy for you guys!

We are excited to share that we just won two Telly Awards for our ad campaign with the American Bankers Association! This project spanned four videos and a whole lot of creativity using subways, airplanes, movie theaters, and more as fun sets. You can find the full video here https://lnkd.in/dTKm...

Shake Shack x Qualtrics https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0EFuXehpbIY
This was to show how Shake Shack utilizes Qualtirics Analytics tools to accelerate and maximize their product decisions. It features scenes from real Shak Shack locations and actors as customers visiting locations, ordering, and eating together. There are also interviews with executives at the company with B-roll showing their meetings and utilizing the software and tools. There are backgrounds in the Company development kitchen where they create and perfect new products. The project included a detailed brand guide displaying specific tones and hues for logos, locations, beverages, and food.

From a project I colored for Qualtrics X4 about how Shake Shack accelerated their growth with their tools: This particular shot was interesting because I have several selections going on at once to pull in the exposure outside the windows so we don’t lose the highlights there. I have a few selections controlling his beverage on the counter so that the color matches what it should be in their brand guide. The same kind of specificity is being applied to the neon Shake Shack Logo in the background. Neon signs saturate hard on the sensor and so I’ve done some work to normalize it and match the luminance, saturation, and hue perfectly with the brand guide. There are also selections controlling the ceiling apart from the light bulbs so that I can focus things without effecting them. And lastly there are some controls added for his face and shirt. Since the shot has some movement to it, all of these selections need tracked to make sure they stay on what they should be effecting. I’m really pleased with how it turned out. The challenge in developing a composition like this is getting a pleasing balance all around while prioritizing the main subject’s detail and skin tone. The same work is applied to these other clips from the same project. I’m doing some specific things to keep the visible details outside the windows in a pleasing field of contrast separate from the interior so that things can be lifted enough inside.

Some color grading stills from a Haggar menswear ad and a Jackson Wang music video I colored. The contrast between them shows the range there is in styling an image. With every project I’m dedicated to enhancing the creator’s vision. It’s challenging detailed work that I’ve been so grateful to be a part of.
