It is with deep sadness that I share the passing of my grandmother, Gladys J. Savage, early this morning peacefully in Red Wing.
Gladys played an instrumental role in both my life and in the foundation of the business. Early on, she was a shareholder, served on our board of directors, and was a steady source of guidance and encouragement. Much of who I am, and what this company stands for, is because of her.
Her impact extended far beyond our organization. From founding one of the areaโs daycare centers and launching Early Childhood Family Education (ECFE), to helping establish Child Care Resource and Referral, now a statewide program, Gladys dedicated her life to improving the lives of children and families. She also worked closely with the Prairie Island Indian Community, offering her time, energy, and unwavering support.
And thatโs just a small part of what she accomplished. Gladys gave so much of herself to countless causes, programs, and people over the years, more than can be captured in a single message, her commitment to service knew no limits.
She encouraged me not only to work hard in business, but to give back, just as she always had. While Gladys started and supported numerous nonprofit organizations, she also inspired me to continue that commitment to community. Today, we proudly support and partner with nonprofit organizations, a reflection of the values she instilled in me.
One of my earliest memories is walking alongside her through the streets of Zumbrota during her campaign for county commissioner. Even then, she brought me with her as she visited with constituents, showing me at a young age, what it means to serve others with compassion and purpose.
Gladys gave so much to our family, our business, and our community. Her absence will be felt deeply, but her legacy will continue to live on through the countless lives she touched.
Thank you to everyone who brought a smile to her face, shared a kind word, or helped brighten her days. You meant more to her, and to us, than you may ever know.
I love you, Grandma. I will miss you greatly. Thank you.
