Identity theft is a growing problem, and it's only going to get worse. Hacks like the recent Anthem and Home Depot break ins are just the tip of an ever increasing iceberg. AT some point something will have to be done, but until that happens, we have to protect ourselves. Check out this article about "freezing" your credit reports. It doesn't notify you after the fact like the credit monitoring service - it stops it before it can happen. It may not be for everyone - it will make your legitimate credit apps a little more difficult. But, if you can deal with the increased hassle when you need credit, it may just prevent all kinds of problems.

Hacker attacks like the Sony hack happen every day to individuals and small business owners. Your connection to the Internet was scanned 25 times while I typed this message. It's important to keep your pc up to date, have current Antivirus software, and use real passwords. Most importantly, never install any unknown software or utilities off the Internet - many are backdoor malware. Make it hard on them. It's not a matter of if but when this type of thing will happen to you.
