External ports in compact electronics are still exposed to ESD, EFT and surge events, even as the available protection footprint keeps shrinking.

For consumer electronics, portable devices, computers and peripherals, designers need protection that can fit dense PCB layouts, support low-voltage interfaces and help protect exposed ports without adding unnecessary placement complexity.

Bourns® Model CDDFN2-T3V3SC and CDDFN2-T5V0SC TVS Diodes provide bidirectional ESD, EFT and surge protection in a compact DFN-2 (0402) package with nominal dimensions of 1.0 x 0.6 x 0.5 mm.

The models offer 3.3 V and 5 V options with 30 kV ESD protection, and are designed to meet IEC 61000-4-2, IEC 61000-4-4 and IEC 61000-4-5 protection requirements.

A Layered Approach to PV Microinverter Protection ☀️

PV microinverters sit between solar panels and the grid, managing electrical stress from both sides of the system. If protection stops at the power bus, sensitive control and communication lines may still be exposed.

An effective protection strategy needs to account for more than one failure path. Surge and overcurrent protection can help safeguard power-stage circuitry, while signal line protection is needed to preserve the data paths used for fast switching control, monitoring and system communication.

Congratulations to Bourns team member Jason Heinrich on his promotion from Associate Engineer to Product Innovation Engineer!

Jason is looking forward to contributing to the Bourns technology ecosystem in a bigger way as he steps into his new role. “We have so many compelling projects to be working on that will fuel our future with innovation.”

“I really want to contribute to product and process technology that unlocks new possibilities for engineers designing electrical systems,” he said.

“We have a huge opportunity to make an impact on the world by pushing the limits of what’s possible today.”

Jason’s passion for engineering began early; he built his first model railroad layout at age 7, a hobby he carries to this day. “Tinkering with model trains is big part of how I found my passion for engineering. It’s equal parts engineering and art.”

We’re excited to see how he continues to cultivate and apply his enthusiasm as he takes this new step in his engineering journey. Congratulations, Jason!

Bourns Riverside team members enjoyed an evening at Angel Stadium for the Dodgers vs. Angels game.

The night was a great opportunity to spend time together outside the office, connect with colleagues, and enjoy a SoCal showdown of America’s favorite pastime.

The game ended with a Dodgers 10–1 win over the Angels.

Please extend a warm welcome to Andres Garcia, who is joining the Bourns team as an Engineering Intern in the Protection Division!

Andres recently completed his sophomore year at the University of Texas at Dallas, where he is pursuing a B.S. in Electrical and Electronics Engineering in the Class of 2028.

He is excited to apply what he’s learned in school to real-world engineering problems while gaining hands-on knowledge.

“Since I have started at Bourns, I have already learned so much about how significant the safety and reliability of electrical systems is,” Andres shared. “Being able to learn from experienced engineers is an opportunity few can get. I’m very proud to be a part of the team.”

Outside of work and textbooks, Andres likes to keep active. He is a member of the UTD pickleball club team and recently completed a 50-mile ultra marathon!

His vision for this role: “To become an engineer that Bourns can rely on to solve problems, and to become technical enough to R&D the technology of the future!”

We have no doubt he’ll accomplish that goal. Welcome Andres, we’re thrilled to have you on board.

Bourns Asia recently hosted Asia Distributor Day in Xiamen, China, bringing together more than 30 valued distribution partners from across the region.

The event kicked off with a welcome dinner, where Bourns presented its 2025 Annual Distributor Awards to recognize outstanding achievements in business growth, NPI demand creation and promotion, design wins, and product management.

The following day, attendees toured the Bourns Xiamen manufacturing facility for a closer look at our production capabilities, quality standards, and operational excellence.

When you’re designing high-speed automotive or portable interfaces, it’s imperative to protect signal lines without adding capacitance that can degrade performance.
